I bought this book on 9/21 at Algonquin, IL ... Friends of the Library book sale for a quarter. This book was once at Jack's Used Books in Mt. Prospect, IL.

c. 1955 -- 288 pages -- Paperback -- #4 on the Modern Library Board's 100 Best Novels list -- #34 on the Modern Library Reader's 100 Best Novels list -- #11 on the Radcliffe Publishing 100 Best Novels list -- #178 on BBC's Top 200 Books

Back Cover: World-famous erotic masterpiece. The most tender, shocking and outrageous love story ever told. "Lolita" has been banned, burned, censored, denounced -- and read by more millions than any other book of its kind. It is about a middle-aged man's tormented desire for his nymphet step-daughter. And a honeymoon without a wedding. And a romance as sweet as murder is innocent. And a murder.

Update: PROMISED to starbytes (via Eskielover M-bag) when I'm done reading it. (11/18/03)

I finished reading this today. I was very mislead ... when the reviews says this is a love story ... and it turns out to be child pornography. The narrator writes from his prison cell (whether statutory rape, incest or murder is the charge) to save his soul. Whereas he's literally condemning himslf with his own words. He's a very sick and insane individual and should have his genitals chopped off before receiving the death penalty.

I recently heard on the news .... Amy Fisher (16 y/o affair with married man; shot wife in face) being referred to as Lolita ... now I understand.
