In south africa in the 1940's a young boy struggles to relise his individuality in a society devided by racial hatred and conflict.A spellbinding story of cruelty, sadness, love and faith, filled with unforgettable characters, and told with great compassion and humor.

Thanks Jodi-Jo-Jo for sending this book! And thank you also for the little treats! My older son loved the boomerang, and the younger is now attached to the koala keychain, lol. You should have mine by now as well.
I look forward to reading this... its been on my "wish list" for some time now. Thanks for a great trade.
Peace. ~C.

It was very good -- in some places, brilliant. I especially enjoyed the way the author used supernatural beliefs to weave together so much of the boy's experiences and history. Doc was the most incredible book character I've encountered in a long time, and I find myself actually saying "Absodoodle" in real life now. I loved him, absodoodle!
I thought it was 'soft' on the political issues, but I guess that is to be expected considering when it was written.
I didn't enjoy the end part, at the mines, so much. I understand why he went there, and that made sense, but the experiences he had there didn't seem to fit in to the rest of the story... maybe that was the point, I don't know.
Anyhow, a very compelling and intriguing book. I'm so grateful that I finally had a chance to read it.

This book has been sent on its next bookcrossing journey as a RABCK to BettyBoekwurm in Portgal. Enjoy!! I sent it by ground post, which means it may take awhile. I posted it on July 7th 2006.
Arrived yesterday. Thanks so much!
