This isn't the sort of book I would choose to read, however not knowing the plot I started to read and it soon became evident what it was about, I couldn't put it down and it dragged me in wanting to know where their journey took them and whether they would survive. The story was heart renching and had me on the edge of my seat in places always expecting the bad guys to catch them and hoping against hope that they would find a better place yet knowing there is nowhere.

I would recommend this to anyone, however I'm looking forward to reading something a little more lighthearted next, but it has taught me to be more open minded when choosing a book to read.

Had I read a synopsis of this book I probably would not have chosen to read it, my usual reading being mainly, though not exclusively, social history and biography.

The Road is a compelling story, written in a style that defies interruption. A cracking pace, freedom for the imagination to build pictures of characters, scenery, the journey. Life as it had been, the catastrophe that had occurred, the whole history and reasons for the sympathetic main characters’ predicament were there.

For me it was a story of hope against all the odds.

I would certainly look out for other books by this author.

I found the book very disturbing.
It was a quick read but difficult and very sad at the end.
I kepts hoping that there would be a positive result.
It is not a book I would have bought or read based on a synopsis.
However, in many ways I am glad I persevered.
