Pilcher's books take me away to places I'd like to go and lives I'd like to live... and yet, I feel as if I COULD live in one of her books. It's not as if her characters are so beautiful and unreal that I couldn't be them. Quite the contrary. I can relate to them. In their shoes I might do and say what they do. I always feel as if they are me in another time and place and it allows me to escape where I am without losing myself in the process. An odd and unique way to experience England (where this book is set). I liked it very much.
