Speak is a very powerful novel deals with a difficult yet important topic. Melinda is just starting high school which should be one of the greatest times in her life. But Melinda is an outcast. She is marked as the girl who called the police to break up the big end-of-he-summer party, and all the kids are angry at her. Even her closest friends have pulled away. No one knows why she made the call. Even Melinda can't really “speak” about what happened. This is a compelling read with sharp, crisp writing. A great read!
Laurie is an awesome writer and special person. We were lucky to have her as a vising author. Having dinner with her and spending time with her is like being with your high school friend. After you read the book, watch the movie and look for Laurie who has a cameo appearance!

This book deals with the emotions felt by many teenagers as they try to fit in with cliques in high school. It also deals with how a tramatic experience can influence a person in all future endeavors. It was a very interesting and thought provoking book to read.
