Bought this at a library book sale ages ago. I wanted to read it, but I no longer have a cassette player in my car and others get priority. I still want this to go to a good home!

I'm not positive, but I'm fairly sure this is an abridgement. For one thing, there's a certain jerky quality to the narrative, and characters pop in and out without much explanation. Neither the box nor the tapes say one way or the other. To me, this is suggestive of an abridgement, because if I were throwing big chunks of literature out the window, I sure wouldn't advertise the fact.
The reader is Sir Ben Kingsley, an actor worthy of our deepest respect. So I'm really dumbfounded at a very lackluster job here. It was faultless - perfect pronunciation - but I was expecting some of the passion George Guidall put into Wiesel's 'Night.' Anyone who's spent a lot of time listening to audiobooks can tell a difference between a reading and a performance, and this, alas, was a reading.
However, the book itself is still fascinating and incredibly detailed. Keneally even manages to put some suspense into a story that concluded seventy years ago. So on balance, I'm glad I listened to this, and I'll award six stars.
But that's just one person's opinion. Future listeners, what do YOU think of this?

Pulled this one from KateKintail's Earreading Audiobooks on Cassette Bookbox #2.
Possibly more depressing to listen to than the movie was to watch...possibly. Still a wonderful story of a man who wasn't afraid to stand for good in the face of evil. I'll probably include this in the next round of my 1001 Bookbox.
