You know, I'm not really a person that likes to read autobiographies, but this is a superb book. Imagine, living in Limerick, Ireland around the 40s. Doesn't sound like thrilling stuff, but it's quite good. I can't wait to go and get part two, 'Tis. Hope you enjoy!

Wooo Hoooo! I finally found a book! I found it by accident just in front of the entrance to see "Chinatown" at the Angelika Theatre (which I initiated into BC with the release of They Call It Sleep).

I was attending the Vistas Film Festival and had a little extra time on my hands between Spanish films, so I popped in to take a closer look at John Alonzo's cinematography (the festival held a retrospective of his work -- first Latino into Cinematographer's Guild, and born in Dallas). The films he worked on were tremendous -- almost every one an important turning point in moviemaking and a great contribution to the restoration of the fine old architecture of Los Angeles, used in making neo-noir film, of which this, "Chinatown," was the first (another of my favorites of a few years later, another pioneer in neo-noir, is the magnificent Robert Mitchum "Farewell My Lovely," also filmed by John Alonzo!

The book was on the easel outside the Pepsi Theatre -- I'd popped in earlier to see a Cantínflas film, hoping that for the festival, it would be an English-subtitled version, but no luck. I've got them on tape w/o subtitles to go through slowly, but I had really hoped the festival would have located subtitled versions (though they could defy translation in parts, it would still help!) My Spanish is good, but I need support, con Cantinflismo o Cantinflísimo especialmente!

I am very excited to have found a book! I don't feel like I'm all alone out there dropping off books; even better, this is a book on my must-read list, so I will read it as quickly as possible and send it on its way!

Thank you thank you thank you!

¡Mil gracias!

After I read the book, I'll make a journal entry here (and on my own bookshelf) and release it into the wild (perhaps at a St. Patrick's Day celebration or earlier at an Irish pub -- the Trinity Pub at Mockingbird Station would be a good place!)

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

I will be releasing this during the IFDC 2005 -- International Fashion Doll Convention -- at the Stardust Hotel. Saturday the 30th is the day that the sales and showroom is open to the public, and the book will be around there (I will notify people at the door of the showroom that it is a wild book and no sales receipt is needed to get out again with it; it will be labeled as a Book Crossing free book as well if I release it within the showroom -- which is probable.) I will be releasing a number of books there in and around convention events during the weekend -- in places accessible to the public. Drop in and see us on your hunt. Click on thumbnail image in top left for time and place -- 9AM to 3PM. Can't find a way to edit the time that automatically went in. If it's 11 PM, it will be released in the bar, which just might be the best place to release this particular book!
