I've seen this title on book lists, and it was unusual enough to stick in my head, but I had no idea what it was about. Now that I've got a copy and can see that it's based on the true story of a young Korean girl who had to disguise herself as a boy in order to go to school, I want to read it.

Induk's mother was determined that her daughter get an education, even though girls in that time and place normally didn't go to school at all. Induk herself soon learned to value her education and want more...and it transformed her life.

An interesting look at life in early 20th-century Korea, including what happened when the Japanese took over.
