In Matthew Inman's 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth (And Other Useful Guides), samurai sword-wielding kittens and hamsters that love .50-caliber machine guns commingle with a cracked out Tyrannosaur that is extremely hard to potty train. Bacon is better than true love and you may awake in the middle of the night to find your nephew nibbling on your toes.
Inman creates these quirky scenes for theoatmeal.com, which launched in July 2009 and already has more than 82 million page views. In fact, every 15 to 30 seconds, someone Googles one of theoatmeal.com's creations. Now, 60 of Inman's comic illustrations and life-bending guides are presented in full-color inside 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth (And Other Useful Guides). Consider such handy advice as:
* 4 Reasons to Carry a Shovel at All Times
* 6 Types of Crappy Hugs
* 8 Ways to Tell if Your Loved One Plans to Eat You
* 17 Things Worth Knowing About Your Cat
* 20 Things Worth Knowing About Beer

Released at the Calgary May meet-up of BookCrossers at the Joshua Tree Café.
Picked up at the May Calgary Book Crossing Meeting.
I love the oatmeal. I laughed so hard I'm fairly sure I disturbed my neighbours. The comics are surprisingly educational, I now have a much better understanding of how semi-colons work, and I have learned that guinea pigs can purr.
Released at the June Short Story Calgary Bookcrossing Meeting.
I am a week late, but I got this at the June meeting!
Parts of this book I really liked - made me laugh out loud and some REALLY annoyed me. Didn't like when he used too much violence and some things I found disturbing (WHY punch a dolphin in the mouth????). Loved the examples for punctuation and learned a lot of other things. Real love/ hate relationship with the book.
Grabbed at get together. It made me giggle out loud all evening, even if some parts were only okay.
Thanks for the funny read!

Passed on to another Book Crosser at get together
Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing August meet-up. The very first comic? 8 Reasons to Keep a Canadian As A Pet. My kind of kooky.
A fun read. I've never visited The Oatmeal site before so this was all new to me. I loved the cartoons with historical facts, especially the one about Tesla. It's funny and educational.
Passing on this book at the Calgary BookCrossing September meet-up.
I love the Oatmeal and their comics. A must-read for anyone with a healthy sense of humor.
Controlled release at the Calgary Book Crossing meeting at Cravings.
