This was good suspenseful tale. I enjiy John Sandford writing.

Arrived in Arizona (USA) on Friday, December 18th to spend Christmas 2015. Not the sunny warm “vacation” I was expecting from the Sonoran Desert with the wacky weather they, and many others across the country are experiencing. I love John Sandford, and I will probably always choose any of his books in a BC book box. Yes, even an abridged version not approved by the author, even knowing I'll be gritting my teeth at the hatchet job. But don't you always wonder what goes on behind the scenes at those literary disemboweling parties?

"Even though this author has published dozens of books and spends more weeks on the NY Times best-seller list than off it, we here in the back room know more about what people like to read than he does. In fact, we're such hotshots we don't even have to get his approval. Hah, we'll show HIM!"

I'd read and enjoyed the original book, so I sorely missed the parts that were taken out. Sandford's characters have an intuitive approach to what information might be floating around, and some very unorthodox, often funny, methods of digging it out. Here, we get exactly one episode of that. We also get unbalanced plot development and at least one disconcertingly ragged transition.

Anyone new to Sandford and judging by only this abridged audiobook would be justified in deciding he wasn't a particularly good writer. I think he'd do himself a big favor by asking his agent to negotiate for more control over these versions.

But that's just one person's opinion. Future listeners, what do YOU think of this book?
