This looked so much more exciting when I got it in the mail than I had expected, I had to stop myself from putting down all my other currently being-read books and devouring this one.

It's next in the queue.

Thanks, buttonbright!!!

The story of a wealthy young man (with extreme wanderlust) who graduates from Emory, sells his possessions, donates his $25,000 in savings to charity and starts hitchhiking. After two years with no contact with his former life, he goes on a solitary living-off-the-wilderness kind of sojurn in Alaska. He ends up not too far off the beaten track (8 miles into the wilderness, at an abandoned bus), but it's far enough. Four months later his remains are found. This is all told on the front cover.

While I didn't find this book as riveting as Into Thin Air, I can certainly understand Jon Krakauer's personal obsession with the story. I think mountaineers and other solitary, extreme wilderness types will enjoy this the most. It was a little more information than I suppose I wanted about Chris McCandless' short life, but it went by quickly.

Thanks for sending it, buttonbright. Now I'm ready to pass it along to someone new!

Picked this book up tonight and left one of mine in its place! I'll journal again after I read it--have 2 bookring books ahead of it though.

Released on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at ABBCJan04 (Already Been Bookcrossed) in Bookbox, postal release USA.

I found this to be a very interesting book. Krakauer has a journalistic, yet very readable style. Hope someone enjoys this one!
