This is going to be my first video-ring. for which I've chosen one of my favourite early Coppola movies for its mindblowing cinematography as well as the stark story.
Amazon.com says:
The second of Francis Ford Coppola's films based on the popular juvenile novels of S.E. Hinton (the first being The Outsiders), Rumble Fish split critics into opposite camps: those who admired the film for its heavily stylized indulgence, and those who hated it for the very same reason. Whatever the response, it's clearly the work of a maverick director who isn't afraid to push the limits of his innovative talent. Filmed almost entirely in black and white with an occasional dash of color for symbolic effect, this tale of alienated youth centers on gang leader Rusty James (Matt Dillon) and his band of punk pals. Rusty's got a girlfriend (Diane Lane), an older brother named Motorcycle Boy (Mickey Rourke), and a drunken father (Dennis Hopper) who've all given up trying to straighten him out. He's best at making trouble, and he pursues that skill with an enthusiastic flair that eventually catches up with him. But it's not the whacked-out story here that matters--it's the uninhibited verve of Coppola's visual approach, which includes everything from time-lapse clouds to the kind of smoky streets and alleyways that could only exist in the movies. The supporting cast includes a host of fresh faces who went on to thriving careers, including Nicolas Cage, Christopher Penn, Vincent Spano, Laurence Fishburne, and musician Tom Waits

Received! Shall try and watch it in the next few days. I'm addicted to the Godfather Trilogy so it will be good to see another Francis Ford Coppola film. Thanks so much.
This film grew on me through out watching it so that by the end I really enjoyed it. Visually it's very beautiful, I loved the time-lapse photography. However, I found the black and white filming a bit contrived and sometimes just wanted to be able to see things better!

Finally, this video has been returned to me after it's rather long detour to my friend. On it's way to Yowlyy when I get the address.
My apologies for the delayed journalling....this one has been with my neighbour for the last few days, and he forgot to pass it on :-( Anyway it arrived safely, and I will be watching it and passing it on within a few days ;-)
Thanks for shipping it and for starting the ring!
Thanks for shipping it and for starting the ring!
I liked the story and the characters... great to see Tom Waits again :-) However, what spoiled it for me was the fact that the photograph wasn't so clear and I got a bit annoyed at the "blurred effect" and like Tigger79, I would have liked to see things better.
PS: forgot to thank Tigger79 for the fun postcard she included to the shipment :-)I like it!!

Video received this morning, thanks YowlYY! Especially looking forward to watching this as it stars Matt Dillon, one of my teenage crushes! I won't be able to watch it for a couple of weeks though, as I'm snowed under with college work, hope that's okay :0)
Hmm, make that "couple of weeks" eighteen months!! I'm really sorry I've had this so long - I was sorting through a big pile of books to pack away and came across the video, I'd totally forgotten that I had it. Anyway, I watched it last night and enjoyed it, though not as much as I did when i was a teenager - although matt Dillon is undeniably gorgeous, he is a shockingly bad actor, I never noticed before! I loved the cinematography of the film, the occasional flash of colour was inspired and the sections that used reportage really brought the film to life.
I'll take this to the UnConvention tomorrow and give it back to you, SemioticGhost - again, I'm so sorry for having had this so long!
