3 journalers for this copy...
I bought this today in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, for the winner of this year's international October sweepstakes. It's a nice little paperback of 93 pages (not the cover shown here), a translation from German by Martin Chalmers. The German title is very different from the English one: "Der Mensch ist ein großer Fasan auf der Welt", which means something like 'Man is a great peacock on earth'.
The reason why I picked this book for the winner is: negatively speaking, I couldn't find any of her wishlist books in any of the bookstores in town, nor any vampire books (which I felt would have been a good choice, seeing as she has read a few vampire stories and as I'm in Transylvania, Dracula's home country...); positively speaking, this book is by Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller who is connected both to my home country Germany and to my current home Romania - plus, the story itself is again connected to Germany and Romania and to where these countries' histories touch. So this is a very personal choice of a book. I have to admit that I haven't read it myself but the blurb sounds interesting. I'm going to read it in German as soon as I find a copy.
I really hope you enjoy the read. But if you don't, please feel free to say so in your journal entry!
