Angel Rock - Stalled Ring

I thought this book was awesome. It was one of those books that keep you turning the pages, barely breathing, to see what happens next.
From the Publisher
"Angel Rock is the name of a hardscrabble town in the Australian outback, encroached upon by wilderness on all sides. So it's not hard for thirteen-year-old Tom and his four-year-old brother, Flynn, to find themselves lost, on an unfamiliar road leading to nowhere they know, night falling, no one in sight. And in the instant that Tom's attention is caught by a kangaroo lying by the side of the road - is it alive or dead? - Flynn is gone." Flynn's inexplicable disappearance weighs heavily on the small, close-knit town. But there's more: another child of Angel Rock, a girl now in her teens, is found dead, an apparent suicide, in Sydney. And when the suicide becomes known in town, the history of deep-rooted family feuds and dark, unshakable obsessions that the community has tried to bury begins to push to the surface. But it is only with the arrival of Gibson - the investigating detective from Sydney, a man given to frequent spells of drunkenness and despair - that the highly charged, intertwining questions surrounding the disappearance and the death, the silence of the townsfolk, and the mysteries of the land itself begin to be answered.

Mailed out on Wednesday, October 15!
How cool! This is the first bookring book I receive :) Thanks, Sherry - I'll make another journal entry with my coments on the book within a few days :)
I've just finished reading it and enjoyed it very much. I particularly like the descriptions of some of Australia's landscapes and people's habits and way of life in the country. Although this is fiction, nonetheless most of it must be based in real life. The characters are very good, as well as the plot. I'm really glad I had the chance to read it :) Thanks Sherri5762!
I've just received the book... I'll read it as fast as I can and then the book will be sent to the next bookcrosser next Monday...! :)
Yesterday I finished reading the book, but due to lack of postage funds I won't be able to send it abroad for another week. So I asked Sherri if I could pass the book to a friend of mine, Malu, who lives near me, so she could read it in the meantime. She agreed, and this afternoon I handed the book to Malu. Next Monday I''ll mail Angel Rock to Starbytes, in Malaysia! :) Thanks!
I finished the reading and it's pretty good...!
Not only the way that the store went on, but the descriptions, the troubles, at last, everything is fascinating! :)
I just... loved it! :D

Received this book today by registered mail, thanks Tuz!! Will read and journal as soon as I can! :)
Update 12th December 2003: This is one of the better books I've read for a while. Finally I find one book which is profound, interesting and exciting, and yet it has a happy ending. So many books I've read recently have been with sad endings, so it was a great relief when I turned to the last page and saw 'and they lived happily ever after'. *g* Really a great read!
Will mail to YowlYY soon!

The book arrived today!! With almost two months on the road, I will try and read it within two weeks so that the others on the list won't have to wait too long. "Angel Rock" will be the next book once I've finished the bookray I'm reading now.
One of the best books I've read in the past two years, for sure! I've enjoyed both the storyline (which reminded me a lot of THE BOTTOMS by Joe L. Lansdale, as a big part of it tends to deal with the childrens world and their perception of the world) and the style that Darren Williams used for this book. The end, where all the lose ends spiral to a united thread and the conclusion of the mystery story, is great, and I already recommended it to two fellows bookcrossers in Edinburgh that I met last Tuesday for the meetup for the first time (Note: I was in Scotland for a short conference, and I thought of taking part to the local meetup, which turned out to be a very enjoyable one!).
Thanks firstly to Sherri5762 for organising the bookring, and to Starbytes for forwarding it to me all the way from Malaysia.
The book is already in his jiffy bag ready to be mailed to vinyldoll, as soon as I receive her address.

received :)
I did not really catch this book, just marking it stalled. It was rec'd by vicki9170 and even though I"ve PM'd her several times over the years, she's not responded, so I'm assumign this book ring is dead. I'm really mad about it, too, because this book was written by the brother of my best friends husband....
