This is, I think, the first novel in the Rina Lazarus-Pete Decker series: a remarkably good beginning to a remarkably good series about a remarkably interesting couple. Aside from all the conventional strengths, this novel has an unusual depth in its discussion of Orthodox Jewish beliefs and practices, in a California setting. Highly recommended; you will be moved to read more in the series...
