Set in New England mainly and London partly, "On Beauty" concerns a pair of feuding families and a clutch of doomed affairs. It puts low morals among high ideals and asks some searching questions about what life does to love. The confusions of our uncertain age, both personal and political, are brought close to home: right to the heart of the family.
Described as "A rollicking satire. Fun, chummy and big-hearted (...)"; "A dazzling comedy(...)" and "Readable and addictive(...)" as well as "Ambitious, hugely impressive(...)"
Hm, we'll see. I'll read it and tell you my opinion!

And the verdict is.... I liked it! I would say it is more a book of wry humour than of "rollicking satire". I could see myself in it, in places, as well as other people I know, and it WAS very addictive. Great reading!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
I'm posting this as a surprise wishlist RABCK to a Book Crossing friend in Portugal, together with some marmite - hope you enjoy them both, Nakipa!
Wow, I arrived home to find not only a surprise book but a bottle of Marmite which I confess I still haven't found the courage to try... but I will, and then I'll let you know! Thank you so much! :D
Well it is a great book, by what I assume is a great story teller, I am now very curious to read other books by Smith, hoping they will be as good as this one. As for the Marmite, I can't say I liked it very much, but now I know how it tastes like. Thank you so much Chremajora, for sharing the book and the marmite with me.
