Fairly straight review begins.
Probably the best of Mr Barker's fantasy/horror/metaphysical novels, and definitely the first of his novels to read after first reading his short story collection, The Books of Blood (which for sheer power and imagination, i think he still has to surpass). As always though, not for the squeamish, puritanical or easily offended by wraith-like characters who were strangled to death in the womb by their own umbilical chord.
