I bit of a tear jerker of a story for the final few pages, but before that it annoyed me. For the first half of the book, there was not plot. I felt the stereotypical American family was over done. Grossly overdone. The main character, Mary Beth seemed to have no life beyond her family, despite running her own business and having a circle of friends. I disliked her and couldn't imagine a mother being so involved in her teenage children's lives. She was suffocating - and boring in her over-analysing of everything.
I raced through the first half waiting for the big event to happen and when it did, it was over in a flash and we were back to the introspection. I'm sorry to say, because of this I felt little empathy with Mary Beth.
