This arrived in today's mail. Thanks a bunch!
I found this book a little slow to get into, and a bit bogged down in mechanical descriptions. However, once the action starts, it's very exciting. I enjoyed it.
Shhh, this book is part of a Secret Santa surprise for a cat-loving bookcrosser who appears to like thrillers, often with a disease angle. Hope you like it, and the other surprises that came with it. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much, Brookler! This is definitely the kind of book I enjoy and I thank you for your thoughtfulness in choosing it. Thanks also for the other wonderful goodies in the package!
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever read such an action-packed book! Sheer entertainment! Most of the adventures are over-the-top implausible, but I just couldn’t stop turning the (581) pages: a quick read, despite its length. Lots of fun, yet lots to think about.
The story confronts an important social issue of our times: overpopulation. The organization that’s trying to do something about it is going about it in a frightening (that’s an understatement) way. But it portrays how strongly people can believe in a cause and be blinded to the fact that their solution is worse than the original problem. I don’t want to say too much, but this aspect of the plot was troubling as well as fascinating.
Lots of talented (and very lucky) characters fill these pages. This was my first book by this author; I will most likely try some others.
Thanks again, Brookler (and bookstogive)!

Amazon:
Captained by the rakish, one-legged Juan Cabrillo and manned by a crew of former military and spy personnel, the Oregon is a private enterprise, available for any government agency that can afford it. They've just completed a top secret mission against Iran in the Persian Gulf when they come across a cruise ship adrift at sea. Hundreds of bodies litter its deck, and, as Cabrillo tries to determine what happened, explosions rack the length of the ship. Barely able to escape with his own life and that of the liner’s sole survivor, Cabrillo finds himself plunged into a mystery as intricate – and as perilous – as any he has ever known and pitted against a cult with monstrously lethal plans for the human race . . . plans he may already be too late to stop.
