The Best of Saki by Saki
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another non-review. I am a great fan of P.G. Wodehouse and Jerome K. Jerome (or used to be), so I was looking forward to reading this small collection of short stories by their contemporary, H.H. Munro, pen-name Saki, especially as he came highly recommended by a friend, long ago when I had never heard of him. I'm surprised to discover that Wodehouse was alive until 1975, by the way, whereas Munro died in 1916. As he was a foreign correspondent, his stories are set all over the world, poking fun at bureaucracy and hypocrisy. Since a friend asked me if she could have it after I'd read it, I rushed to read it, but didn't savour it, so can't be particularly illuminating about what the stories are about. And then I missed the friend at the meeting I was supposed to see her at, so I still have the book. Maybe I should pick it up and read a few before passing it on, then update my review.
