Journal Entry 1 by wingGoryDetailswing from Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Saturday, August 6, 2011
I just discovered this series via Volume One of the Tokyo arc, and enjoyed it so much that I decided to try and read 'em all. I found a few volumes of the original series at the Comic Store. This continues the series from Volume Two, though the individual stories stand alone; it's worth reading the books in order for some bonus character development but it isn't essential.

Later: This one has a delightful mix of the sly humor (and occasional slapstick), poignant beauty, and outright horror that is the series' hallmark. From Detective Orcot chowing down on D's delicious treats while still trying to find something to convict him of, to the revelation of some intriguing tidbits about D's family background, to a stunning plot twist in which a serial killer turns out to be a totetsu, this volume has some marvelous entries. Perhaps the darkest is, surprisingly, NOT the serial-killer one, but a story about a spoiled child who craves new pets but is cruel to them and abandons them as soon as she's bored again.

(Continued in Volume 4.)

[There's an entertaining TV Tropes page for the series, but beware of spoilers!]
