What a weird, hilarious mystery! I loved the literary references - from Greek myths via crime to nursery rhymes - and all the twists and turns. Parts were quite satirical, almost a parody of crime fiction. Apart form that it's rather 110001 00 10111 0110000111 0111000111 10101 1010 1010 1111 100001 0011 01111 10000 110001 10101 101100 001 1001 1000 100001 10001 00010010100 001 11000 1001 0000 110 10001 11110 000 101011.

Happy Birthday!

Birthday Book! I'm so pleased you picked this off my wishlist. I've been using the book reviews section in 'Sci-fi Now' to help fill up my wishlist and this sounded good. And it's set in Reading. I love it when books are set in places I've been :)

I did not enjoy Fforde's Shades of Grey like I thought I would and I was worried that it would be the same with this book. It wasn't! Firstly I need to tell you about my thing with place names. Whenever somewhere I've been/or live near pops up I get very excited, unless it's London because everyone goes there. This book has a few places I've been! Reading - every time this was mentioned I was like. I go there, that's just down the road! It has a Yo! Sushi and a Disney Store (Not that either of these pop up in the book). Basingstoke! It's nothing to be ashamed of. That has a rather large shopping centre and I had the back of my neck pierced there. And just when I thought no more place names could be offered up to me, Bracknell is mentioned. Now I don't like Bracknell at all, it's nicknamed Cracknell, it's a horrible town and the roads are full of roundabouts. My sister and some of my friends live there though so I do have to venture there often. Still seeing it written in the book knocked my socks off. Right, do we all understand how excited place names get me? Yes? Then lets move on.

This book is almost like a cosy mystery but a very funny one with Nursery characters. DI Jack Spratt and Mary Mary are the main characters, both very likeable. Jack's family are also very charming. The case of Humpty Dumpty needs to be solved, it seems like he fell off a wall or was he pushed? This book had so many twists and turns that I found it impossible to guess who done it. A fabulous read for people who enjoy a good mystery with a dash of humour.

Chawoso would like to read the book. So it will travel in a box to her in about a months time. Enjoy and thanks for putting the other books from my box on the book tables at the convention in Mainz!
