True Grit

I bought this book while on a roadtrip through the southwestern United States earlier this year, through the usual western country.
The new movie True Grit had just come out here in Denmark to great critical acclaim, and when I discovered that the movie was actually based on a classic novel from 1968, I decided to read the book before watching the movie.
It has taken me a while to read it because it's been my train read which doesn't always get much/sufficient attention.
I really enjoyed reading the book and had to laugh out loud several times. The voice of Mattie Ross is matter-of-fact and deadpan. It's interesting to get a view of how life was in the 1870s outside the civilised part of the country. I enjoyed the part where Mattie is forced to sign money bills so that the outlaws could cash in their 'prize' from a bank robbery. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about this book, because it's a true gem.
