I like the character of Hamish Macbeth, common sense with the Highland 6th sense, kind, not a bully, cares for the people under his watch. He is a village cop in the town of Lochdubh and he makes it all seem very cozy, except for the murder of course, but that is just given a line or two, nothing graphic, leaving one to enjoy the beauty of Lochdubh and Hamish's peculiar and charming personality.
In this story a young man, an ex-heroin addict, is found dead with a needle next to him. It is called a drug overdose and the case is closed. Hamish thinks it is all a bit too pat and sets out to find the truth of what really occurred.
