"The system was simple. Everyone understood it. Books were for burning.. along withthe houses in which they were hidden." This looks like a fantastic book, I don't know why I haven't read it yet. It may have been frightening in its intent in 1953, but it is just as relevant today with the squashing of dissent.
I've made this next on my TBR list as I've found a songwriting contest called "Songs Inspired by Literature." There is a list of books that this group is looking for songs about to inspire high shcool students to read. This one looked like the best match for me.

I read this in one sitting last night, and am so happy that I picked it to be my attempt at getting on a "songs inspired by literature" CD. I actually found lines in the book that were very similar to songs I had already written.
The story is just fantastic and think it is a very important book for people to read right now. The TV screens, the violence, the love-less relationships, and the wars, aren't too far off from how we are living now.
Lent to a friend who doesn't seem to have any intentions of giving it back. I'm labeling it as traveling.

Am I the friend who doesn't intend to give it back? hmmm.
Enjoyed the book - amazingly prescient. Also liked Bradbury's comments at the end written many years after he'd published the book... how he adjusted the story & characters for dramatization, how he reacted to readers' reactions.

Returned to therubycanary - I believe she intends to enlighten another friend with it, so I'm setting the status to reserved.
