A fascinating tale of the early years of Amazon discovery by Europeans and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of a truly amazing adventurer. More compelling than anything, though, was the story of the indigenous civilizations that was just barely touched upon near the end of the book. Perhaps the author will write a follow-up book on that subject. If you're looking for heart-pounding adventure, you won't really find it here.
