There are children who would not have been born, if it weren't for BookCrossing. I know of at least three marriages begun that way.
There are those who have left us. Whiteraven - founder of Markeroni - you may recall, and far too many others.
Pardon a little wary. Redsoxbookguy, for all his amazing zing, had some marvellous plans for BookCrossing, and they didn't really happen, though he certainly put new zeal and energy into the site.
Books seem to be in decline, with e-readers and audiobooks booming. Little Free Libraries and the like are springing up because there are so many good books being decluttered. I've sold or given away several thousand over the past few years, and I try not to accumulate any more. I wonder how much of a future physical books have. The kind that people might want to pass on, I mean; there'll always be a place for big glossy books, short runs and specialist titles.
And finally, all my thanks to Bruce and Heather and their small but dedicated team, who have spent many years keeping this thing going. You picked those partners well!
Now, I might just go off and buy some wings. Thanks again!
