You have to. Beg and plead if need be. You'll find more joy in it than you can imagine. AND you'll be surprised at what it comes to mean to other people.
This morning I was out spooking up the library for Halloween - sticking on some spider & skull decorations and adding some appropriate books. I was somewhat engrossed in what I was doing and didn't notice someone had come up behind me until I heard a soft "hello". It was a lady who lives nearby and now lives alone and is known to be quite a recluse. I was most surprised to even see her, never mind have her talk to me. She said, "This is a wonderful thing you are doing. My husband's been in the hospital 7 years now." And her eyes welled up (and I have to admit, so did mine.) She added, "I like historical fiction. Would you have anything like that I wonder?" Of course, there I was with ghost stories and kids books and not a single thing to fit the bill! But she selected one anyway and said, "I'll try this one then and see how it goes."
And now I'm on the lookout for historical fiction set in Europe in the 1200 -1400s! Yikes. :)
