Interested to know what are on people's "to Do" lists for 2018?

By that I mean reading or release challenges, sweepstakes that you're determined to enter the next time around, books that you're determined to pluck off Mt TBR so as to not have them spend yet another year atop the summit!

Funds are very tight, and I've recently decided to go "Back to BC Basics" and take the BC "pressure" off...COMPLETELY...by simply Reading, and then Releasing...NO SIGN UPS...for ANYthing, which will NOT be an easy task for ME...especially where Sweeps which offer kindnesses to others, and help for the BC Bookstore are concerned!!! ; D To that end, I'm beginning by NOT signing up for any Rings, Rays, or Bookboxes for 2018...nor any Book Talk Challenges with the need to keep track of what I read when, listing what I am...or am planning to read, nor racing to meet a Readathon time crunch...all of which I failed at miserably in 2017. I have been able to determine, that while all of these are GREAT FUN...for some reason...they not only create a tremendous amount of stress for me in my life of caretaking for someone with many health issues, and those of my own...all of which require HOURS and hours of recordkeeping, but they also seem to reduce the amount of precious moments that I could actually be READING!!! ; D I am going to LEISURELY read, here or there, whenever I have a moment or two, without a deadline or a recordkeeping requirement of any sort attached. My goal is to backtrack and take the time to identify which of all of the FABulous books I already HAVE to read in Mt. TBR are from other BCers, and begin with those...in random order...chosen by what ever strikes my fancy in the moment...that is available in the house...and not back in storage...and get back to enJOYing READing...without all of the "Recordkeeping". ; ) Once I have finished another BCers book, I am going to WILD RELEASE it, per the original intent of BC...no strings attached. One exception to that will be that I will stop into the Release Challenge Forum, to see if a Challenge may be running at that particular time, that the book I plan to release fits into. If so, I'll post to add it to the Challenge Host's Challenge Success, but as much as I enjoy participating in ALL the Release Challenges, I'm NOT allowing myself to formally Sign Up for any of them this year. I will keep my commitment to run the annual Challenges I have going, because there are others who enjoy them...including this one for fellow BCer, zbird. ; ) https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/548041 I am no longer keeping a list of the years' Release Challenges on my Bookshelf, but there's always one running, and if you are interested, solittletime has compiled a list from several sources here. https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/548077

Are you going to make it to a BookCrossing convention, an un-convention or a meet-up in your area for the first time?

Lets hear it.....and please include links if applicable.

No plans for any of these in my future at this time, but plan to enjoy watching the Forums for Posts by those attending the Annual BC Convention, like I did this year. ; )

even though I'm not going to meet my goal this year and didn't meet it last year. Other than that, my only other reading goal is to try and get caught up on some of the twenty or so series that I'm partway through.

I am taking part in 2018 Oppem's Brithday Group (link:http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/546680 ) . Sometime before the end of the year, I will go through my ToBeRead list and check to see if any of these books are on other participants wishlist. The ones that are go to the top of the pile. Next, I'm taking part in iwillrejoice's alphabetical bookrings(link: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/547606 ). I will pull the ones I think will fit what I need. And then I also try to take part in Plum-crazy's what to read thread for the month thread (link:http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/546786 ) .

I'll be continuing with iwillrejoice's rings too - I give preference to matches of ABC books that fit the title/author

And I'll continue with Plum's challenges - hopefully giving more preference in 2018 to all the lovely ABC TBRs that have been sent to me over the years.

I'm also trying to pre-match the ABC TBRs with wishlists, so I can move them along as a rabck.

I don't do challenges. I have enough trouble keeping up with books for my book club and classes. Nor do I do sweepstakes, not even the Publishers Clearinghouse (which promises to make me a gazillionaire - I don't believe them).

As for Mt. TBR, I just read what I want when I feel like it from the piles.

I've been to a number of Conventions, but can't manage the Bordeaux one. One trip abroad a year is (usually) my limit and I'm headed to Vienna in June.

No unconventions near me that I'm aware of, and we haven't had a Chicago meet-up in yonks (at least since Meet-up went nuts on us).

I did try to look up BCers to see if there was a Chicago meet-up when I was there for 6 weeks in Sept/Oct, but with the Member Search not working properly, I couldnt manage it.

I should be back in Chicago before the end of the January.
I'll try to give you some notice and see if we can organise a 2018 meet-up ;)

Absolutely heading to Hobart in November for the Uncon.

Will keep participating in the Australasia Wishlist Tag which was started by J4shaw. I would love to meet some of the regular taggers - I hope they make it to one of the Uncons either here in NZ or in Australia.

Likewise with the Southern Cross Book Exchange - unsure if this will keep going in 2018 as we have had the misfortune to have people join and never send books - no explanation just silence, and no logging of books sent to them GRRRR. But the regulars - oh how I would love to meet them.

Of course I understand the risk, people who you love exchanging books with might not be your "cup of tea" F2F - so perhaps it is better that the illusion of potential personal friendship is not spoilt?

I like doing the Australian Women writers - though I don't treat it as a challenge I just keep finding great books by wonderful Australian women.

My experience meeting other Bookcrossers has pretty much been the same as meeting any other group of people with whom you share an interest. Some are great, and you want them to be your friends for life. Others, you hope you never see again. And most are somewhere in between.

ETA: Bottom line? It's absolutely worth the risk.

And that is why I go to conventions /unconventions whenever possible and have been part of the organising of several. I am intrigued as to whether i would hit it off with those who I have never met and yet have exchanged book parcels with often.

I will take it easy next year, more or less like this year. No sweepstakes, roundabouts, rings or rays. It went well this year.
The challenges I will try to complete:
- read a minimum of 12 books from the 1001-list
- read a minimum of 5 books with more than 500 pages
- read the alphabet full for authors
- read the 40 oldest books from MTBR (received from others)
- read a total of 75 books (this total includes the books for the challenges)

Are you going to make it to a BookCrossing convention, an un-convention or a meet-up in your area for the first time.

Hubby and I intend the Bordeaux Convention in April next year. I loved Oxford and have met lots of special people whom I'd love to see again. And make more BC-friend-for-life if possible.

Regional meetups I intend to attend, but I'm not sure if I'll go to the Dutch annual meetup next year.

I'll be attending the new year's meeting in Amsterdam next month. The summer's meeting... not sure if I'll be there.

Further I decided not to do the slphabet's challenges, because I realised I wznt to try something I've never done before: read a complete series from book 1 till the last one. Not sure whether I'll like it, but we'll see about that.

The other challenges fit in with ehat I usually do.

Further I want/need to downsize not only MTBR but also my complete library.
I've made a start this month and it feels good, so I intend to keep up the good work :-)

I've got to get Mt. TBR under control!!! So I'm trying to read through that without gaining anymore books. It's that second part that's so hard! I keep doing the Wish List Tag, which is great because I can get rid of a book! But then someone sends me another one! But I can't stop!

So anyway, maybe the Reduce My TBR challenge will be a good one for me.

I will be continuing to play in the Wishlist Tag games.

I will mostly be reading those books that have been on my shelf the longest.
I am aiming for reading 100 books this coming year. I didn't quite make it this year (84 read).

I usually attend our local meet-up and would love to get to the Australian Un-convention in Hobart but that will depend on if our retirement plans work out.

For me...

....2017 was the first time in a long time that I didn't sign up for the 666 challenge. Having failed to ever accomplish it, I made the conscious decision to allow myself a little more freedom in reading simply what I felt like reading, when I wanted to read it.
It did make a massive improvement to my reading, and I managed to read a lot more new fiction, which I enjoy doing.
For this reason, I won't be signing up for this challenge for 2018 either. But I do suspect that I'll be back!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did manage to complete my goal of 6 books for the 2017 Australian Women Writers Reading Challenge <<< here is the link to the 2018 thread if you're interested in giving it a go: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/548631 >>> and this challenge is dear to my heart, so I'll be attempting this one again.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I DIDN'T manage (again) to complete the simple task of reading 4 books for the Unite the Kingdoms Reading Challenge - which I personally created!!! Oh the shame!
Am determind to achieve this one in 2018 <<< here is the link to the 2018 thread if you're interested in giving it a go: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/548630 >>>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking at the USA States Challenge and also the 2018-2019 Canadian Reading Challenge, but am going to hold off signing up....for now!
But I have signed up for the first time to Oppen’s birthday group for 2018.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will absolutely be hosting the Support BC's Supply Store Sweepstakes again in 2018.
Also the 2018 Australian Literature Sweepstakes is currently running <<<< http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/548143 >>>>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going to continue to participate in the Wishlist Tag Games, becasue my Wishlist books genuinely are books I really would love to read, and I do prefer to control release my books, rather than wild releasing.
