Powerful book. I highly recomend it. Set in Cape Breton, there was a lot on the mining troubles and prohibition of the earlt 20th century. Well worth reading.
Suggestions for PEI
Well, since I seem to be reading some Canadian books, I might as well declare them here :-)
Alberta: The Surgeon by Kate Bridges http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12464148/
A Historical western romance, but not set as usual in the US west. This one is about a Mountie & surgeon, who is assigned to the newly developing town of Calgary. As a joke, his men order him a mail order bride. Imagine his surprise, and hers, when Sarah shows up & she finds out the he never wrote any of the letters that she cherished and that brought her west. What a mess.
I am starting over. Never Knowing by Chevy Stevens
#1. Beautiful British Columbia. Nanaimo and Victoria
I didn't feel like wading through the old posts so I'll start anew!
Until the Night by Giles Blunt.
Women are turning up frozen to death in clothes they were never seen wearing before, seemingly cared for then cruelly abandoned by their murderer.
The novel alternates between two stories; the murder investigation and a diary kept by a researcher at science outpost deep in the Arctic where, decades before something terrible happened.
I have a Russell Quant (Saskatchewan) that I need to read soon for a book box, but I'm planning to do the 666 reading challenge for 2015 (and trying for gypsysmom's release challenge as well), so I'll definitely be looking for more good Canadian reads!
