Yeah, there's more than just the dog in the find, and it's all quite interesting, but the dog statuette is so lively and cute that I just had to post it!

It looks like the dog is looking up at someone.

It looks so happy :-)

Also its body shape is very interesting to me, as it clearly depicts a dog type bred for purpose, with the short legs and very slender physique. (I am a (zoo)archaeologist)

He's been waiting a mighty long time -- please someone, throw him a stick!

I was also trying to guess the breed or purpose of the dog's shape. I would say he would have gone down a hole after vermin - a "badger" type dog which has always been useful in England. Very alert, and I liked the the idea of the deity Nodens, a god of "hunting, dogs & healing". A versatile & useful deity :o)

I LOVE that! Stuff like the Sutton Hoo treasures, the finding of Richard III under parking lot - I find that so fascinating.

what I love most about the Sutton Hoo hoard, the connection that can be made between artifacts from that hoard - amongst which the famous helmet - and descriptions of artifacts in the Beowulf poem.
