Testament of Youth by Vera Britten
I first came across Testament of Youth when it was made into a television series starring Cheryl Campbell in the 1970s - much better than the recent film. When I subsequently read the book it affected very much and I went on to read the sequel, Testament of Friendship, and other books based on Vera Brittain’s correspondence. She was a remarkable woman in so many ways. One thing that really resonated with me at the time was the fact that having completed her studies at Oxford after returning from nursing at the front during WII she was not awarded a degree because women were not allowed to graduate in those days !
