Yes, that's right, the first BookCrossing 24 hour Readathon will be held on Sunday April 14th, 2019!

Given the vast spread of BookCrossers around the world, the aim is that from 12:01am - 11:59pm Pacific Time Zone (PDT), there will be a BookCrosser somewhere in the world who is reading a book as part of this Readathon!
A great way to prepare some books ready to release on International BookCrossing Day (April 21st) or to take with you to the Convention in Mainz held from the 26th -28th April 2019.

Whether it is through a group get together / BC meetup, in the comfort of your own home or at an OBCZ enjoying a coffee, this will be a great opportunity to knock some books off your Mt TBR.

#BC24HrReadathon

Sounds like a lot of fun, but that's the day I'm out driving around releasing books all day. My friend wilderwoman and I released 100 this year on International BookCrossing Day. (Down from our 181 last year, but we've both had medical issues recently.)

But I can't drive and read at the same time...

But I can't drive and read at the same time...

Maybe you could still ear-read some of the time.

But I can't drive and read at the same time...

Bring a friend! You could take turns driving and reading.

And indeed if we are to release books on that day, or the day may be very close to the annual convention, it's hard to do a lot of reading.

.....due to how Easter falls in 2019.

Cool! Now we can read AND release books on two different days!

That's good news.

I will SAVE THE DATE and join in!!! : D I LOVE the Bookplates and tried twice a little bit ago to order some to be prepared...the link that was available above isn't there now https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/747981d3-b07b-4410-8e74-b69c60815136 , but when I added them to my Shopping Cart, so I could try again to finalizing my Supply Order that I've been have difficulty with...not due to a BC or Supply Store issue ; )...they were not there either time. Since their date of creation was listed as 4/30/2018, perhaps they haven't been printed just yet. ; ) Was thinking I could send some of them to the winner of the current Int Support BC Supply Store Sweepstakes, too. ; ) https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/551649

...the link that was available above isn't there now

There is a hyperlink to the labels on My Profile page.
The link wasn't posted here, that's why you can't see it now :)

HAHAHA!!! : D YES...that IS where it was!!! : D I remember now that I clicked on your Profile Page because I had never seen it before and wanted to make certain it was "real". ; ) THANK YOU...the Themed Labels are AWESOME!!! : )

P.S. I did click the "Add to Shopping Cart" tab that comes up in that hyperlink a third time and it is not adding the Bookplates to my current Shopping Cart, but no worries (and definitely not a priority)...I found them as the first item to choose from in the Custom Bookplates and added them in from there. ; ) https://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookplates

I just received a message wanting to be friends on Facebook.

Me too!! LOL I was wondering if it was legit or some psycho ;)
Can you imagine, we friend them and they try to take away our books?! Ok... no more reading mystery/thrillers this weekend...

Count me in!
Looking forward to it!
I've only ever done 1 readathon before - Dewey's in 2017 - but wasn't very prepped for it.
Will be great to see tie ins of BC meet-ups as reading/readathon events around the world.

Just ended deweys and then saw the fb post XD I am all in!

I always enjoy Dewey's but can't join this time as I was traveling.
Another read-a-thon I enjoy is Borrow-a-thon. You must read books that are borrowed. Technically, that includes all BC books!

will be going on that day, but this sounds pretty cool.

Never done a 24 hours thon. I enjoyed the 24hour in a week challenge in booktalk when I joined them, and even that I never managed to complete:)

I'm another one who's just finished Deweys 24hr readathon which was my first so now I've got the bug I'm in! Looking forward to it. :)

they have to read 24 hours all by themselves to complete the challenge. But this is clearly a group challenge. Will we be asked later which part of the day we intend to cover?

Absolutely not!
However you are welcome to do so, and it sure is fun trying!
It's about how much YOU want to read, ie the whole 24 hour period or in installments if you have an appointment in the middle of the day, that's ok. Leave us, but do come back!

As it says in the main post of this thread:

More detail to follow.
This is simply a please save the date at this stage!

I know some have voiced mild frustration that it is a long time off from happening, but patience please dear BookCrossers.
You cannot rush the planning of such a fantastic event that we hope will bring many of this wonderful community together across the globe!

I am NOT one to view it as ANY form of "frustration"...more as SOMETHING VERY EXCITING TO LOOK FORWARD TO...perhaps akin to a special HOLIDAY that comes but once a year!!! : D The journey there, and the surprises that unfold during the meantime, will ALL be a JOYFUL DAYBRIGHTENER as they appear...like FIREWORKS in cyberspace!!! ; D

THANK YOU for the JOY of BOOKCROSSING, oh...BC24HrReadathon!!! : D

Yes, that makes sense... :)

So who is the actual Bcer behind this BC24HrReadathon profile?
Curious minds want to know.

Oh I wondered how long that would take to come up!
But I simply couldn't possibly reveal such a secret - although, you did just give me a great idea for a 'during readathon' prize for a correct guess!

:-)

Though it is my husband’s birthday so may have to sneak some reading in :)

People are very wary of accepting the FB invites I think that you need to reveal yourself on FB. The publicity about the dangers of FB and privacy concerns are viewed seriously by many.

People don't have to accept the invites if they are wary. The presence of the BC24HrReadathon on Twitter, FaceBook and Instagram is ADDITIONAL to the BC site.
They can simply engage through this thread (and other subsequent threads) directly on the BC site.

I look forward to it! It has a place in my planning now :-)

... join he group! Following Instagram and Twitter! Let's do this!!

With 272 days to go until the #BC24HrReadathon we thought you might want to get some @readathon practice. #DeweysReadathon has you covered with their #24hourreadathon happening on July 28th. #readathon

Thanks for letting us know!!! ; D

On a side note...Not long ago I received the BC24HrReadathon Bookplates I purchased to send as a "Bookmark" in a RABCK Book to a few other BCers between now and the main event. I LOVE them, and may need to order more!!! ; ) https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/747981d3-b07b-4410-8e74-b69c60815136

Looks exciting, I’m in!

I was going to do Dewey's this month but it's not a good day so I think I'll swap to this one. Currently it's a free day.

PS I did do Dewey's in the end and managed one and two half books and enjoyed it muchly even if I didn't have time for any posting during the event. Now tidying up the other two halves of the books.

I’m on vacation that week- how perfect! I’m not sure yet how/where I’ll be spending the week, but now my plans definitely include this event. I may try to read for the entire 24 hours!

It's such a long way off that I'm not sure what I'll be doing on the day, but I'll certainly join in if I can, though probably not for the whole 24 hours.

I'm looking forward to read almost around the clock with you.

By the way,
here in Central Europe, it would be from Sunday, April 14, 9:01 A.M to Monday, April 15, 8:59 A.M.
So i think, i can probably take part up to the late hours of Sunday.

I'm putting together a small list of books to read for the Readathon! Looking forward to it the excuse to read more.

... and reading a book is a very good way to spend a day! I'll do this!

although I won't be able to read too much, being on a familyholiday with a bunch of kids. :D But I'll find a quiet spot and put pics up on my little free library's instagram page and facebookpage . And probably my personal pages as well! Going full hashtag crazy! Yeey, let's read!

I’m off my feet so have plenty of time.

Thank you

Time for an hour or so reading before I turn out the light 🙂
