[RESOLVED] Recently released books not showing up in OBCZ

We just moved the Winnipeg OBCZ to a new location and had our first meeting there on May 17th. There were quite a few books released that night but none of them show up when I use the Go Hunting feature. The zone is Second Cup - Graham and Edmonton in Winnipeg, in Manitoba in Canada. The last book that was released there according to the page was released on February 12, 2008:
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/5868983

And yet I personally released at two books there including The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/13514491

Hope you can sort this out because if people want to go hunting in Winnipeg we would like the to go to the OBCZ.

I looked at your copy of The Chemist, and it's been journaled since you made your release notes, presumably by the OBCZ manager. Because of the new JE, the book's no longer considered "in the wild". I've seen some OBCZ managers who choose to handle the books this way; while it does take them off of the hunting pages, it adds them to the OBCZ bookshelf, where the manager can set status codes to "available" for books still on hand and "traveling" for those that are gone.

I *think* that if they checked the "still in the wild" checkbox when journaling the book, it would add it to their shelf but still leave it on the hunting pages. Not sure what would happen if they tried to change the status codes after that, though.

I don't know if you want to ask them about this, as it seems they've been running it this way for some time and are happy with it.

Hmm. I didn't realize that catching them on the OBCZ shelf removed them from the go hunting page. I'm the manager so it's been me that does the catching. I'll have to give that a rethink.

Anytime any book is caught it comes off the Go Hunting pages.

I guess you could have the OBCZ re-release them, to put them back on, but that sounds like a lot of work.

If you check the "still in the wild" checkbox when making the OBCZ journal entries, the books should still show on the hunting pages. The status will be "traveling" instead of "available", though, so if you wanted to use the "available" status on the OBCZ shelf to show books that are actually present, this wouldn't quite fit the bill. (I don't know what would happen if you tried changing the status manually from "traveling" to "available" after you'd journaled the books; it might leave them on the hunting pages but it might not.)

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
