Suggestions how to give feedback in a useful way for BookCrossing 2.0 Beta

There are a lot of different ways to give information, but what Matt suggested for the folks who were helping to test the site before launch was the following.
In your subject line indicate the type of comment, and a brief description of where or what it is
A Bug
A Text Change
Doesn't work as before (DWAB)
A Feature Request
Also include the following, if you can:
Browser type-version / OS
Url of error (including querystring)
Form data (if submitting a form)
Description of how it happened. Brief and detailed enough so that we can try and replicate the problem.
So you might say something like:
Doesn't Work As Before: Homepage different
When I log on to BookCrossing I can't get to the old home page. I can see it when not logged in, but when logged in, I am taken directly to my shelf.
IE7
http://bookcrossing.com/
(The answer to this question btw, is that the info on the old home page is still accessible to you. In fact, the news is on the sidebar of your bookshelf now. But the old general homepage is more for newbies or people browsing through. It's to get them interested in BookCrossing. Your new homepage *is* your shelf. You can get to every thing you need from there. )
One final thing -- The site is still in Beta and we *know* there will be some quirks and bugs to be worked out, and that some things won't work as before. But to move BookCrossing forward and bring those new features, apps etc that everyone has been clamoring for, we had to rebuild the site. While we'd rather have been able to wait and bring it to you "picture perfect", our financial and manpower resources didn't allow for that luxury. But hey, this way you all can help craft the site to be what YOU want it to be!
Again, thanks for your support and patience.

same here, just wanted to send a post in alphagories fun & games forum and said this field was required. It's really not necessary to have to write more info as only a one word reply was necessary for the game. And do we really have to go to the last page to see the newest posts? That is a waste of time and hope BC support will change that soon. Or if I am just doing something wrong then...? Who knows.
"Mark read" is an empty link so it links to the current page and more importantly does nothing useful.

I can't find the button which showed the block of numbers I had been pre-assigned. It used to be located just below my member data and above my stats (near the pm this member link).
I thought it might be the link labelled "pre numbered" to the right of the screen when I look at my bookshelf. But this link states "no books found"

1) This may be a bug or a "feature. I cannot post a new thread in this forum.
2) There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the numbers following posts on the entry level to a forum. new posts have "0/0" older posts may have numbers and some are even in red.
3) Configuration doesn't work as I want it. There is a choice of "flat latest first" (I thnk that what ti says. The oldest ppost remains at teh top and ifteh discussion has too many entries for one page you mus change to condensed and read posts individually.
That said I like the cleaner look and the pull down menus. If I am not mistake a couple of new and interesting forums have appeared. I am off to see if there is any expanationof the new features and how you all think they are to work.

either. I've tried to start two separate new threads, and when I click "save", I'm taken back to the forum. My threads are not there. What's up with that?
I'm not sure whether I have wings or not. There were fading out and sometimes I see them on the top of the page, then they disappear. Then they are back again.
I don't know if it matters in this forum whether or not you have wings.

I find in my wish list books that I had deleted some time ago, and I don't find in it books I have added recently.
Moreover, I cannot delete from my wish list the book that I want to delete.
My wish list
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/wishlist
For what concern my city, it doesn't appear on my profile, and when I try to add it on my profile, I found the window grey (i.e. it is impossible to write on it the name of my city).
Thank you for your attention, and excuse my bad English !

On the old website, when I registered a book and released it (i.e. made two journal entries), this was counted as '1 journaler'. At least this is what I remember. Now, these same books are listed with '2 journalers' (where it really is 1 journaler and 2 journal entries). This is not crucial, but a bit confusing.
Same here, mentioned it elsewhere. http://bookcrossing.com/---/431905 perhaps?
I found this page and it seems to list things they know need to be implemented on this new site:
http://www.bookcrossing.com/roadmap
I guess there's no need to mention those in our posts here... but I'm not of the bookcrossing support, it's just something I think could be useful to check.

The author of the book http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/2386049 is Luciano De Crescenzo.
Bookcrossing has changed it to luciano de crescenzo which is wrong. Whenever I change it back to use uppercase letters bookcrossing changes it back again. Other changes in the authors name are accepted.

White of the wings icons shows against the blue background on the top of the page.
Screenshot shows this better: http://www.flickr.com/---/4638757545/
Wings type: paws (but I suspect it's for all wings)
Safari and FF, OS X, but it's really across all platforms as it's with the graphics...

Previously it was possible to search for users of any city by searching for the city name.
I can't find that any more. If it's removed, please get it back. It is helpful when searching for people from a specific area (e.g. for meetings or setting up new BC zones etc).
Now there is only browse by country and then whatnot it shows under.
http://www.bookcrossing.com/findmembers
Country list is too short, and entries are incomplete. E.g. for Ireland there are only Co Cork (5 members!!) and Co Dublin listed. Nothing else. (And the Irish friends are planning to set up an OBCZ for Limerick... in this case they'd probably want to search places like Limerick, Gort, Ennis, Shannon and whatever is around there)

I was about to edit the previous post I made, but get a server error when editing (below)**.
Anyway, what I forgot to add is that for cities that are listed, you can just view ALL members but not sort them. It would usually be good to be able to browse them e.g. by activity, by released books or registered books or join date, or preferably all of the above.

I can't release either, but not getting all that computerese. I complete step 4, and then the screen just reloads showing the steps I've completed. Same thing with both Safari and Firefox.
Also: the alphabetical listing of authors actually sorts on first names/initials rather than surnames. (Nice to have though, particularly if you have fave authors with other reviews that may intrigue finders of a book)
Minor niggle: all fields to be completed in Firefox align to LHS, top, rather than centring in the box
Thanks! f

My old profile pic is gone. I thought that would be OK as I downloaded it last night, just to be safe. Well, it won't let me upload it. I get an error message that it isn't an image in an approved format: .jpg/.gif/.png. But it is. It is a .gif and is exactly as I downloaded it from BookCrossing.
It is the only profile pic I have ever used on BC and it is highly annoying that I can't upload it again.
If I then click on "save" on the "edit profile" page, I get taken straight to a log-in page. I must log in again before I can proceed.

I have a picture of penguins at the bottom of my profile which for some reason is duplicated although as far I can tell the relevant html txt only appears once & the two animated items which should appear after it aren't there yet the htnl txt is!
Also I'm finding sometimes I'm getting redirected back to the log in screen after I've clicked save.
I realise there's far bigger things taht need sorting out but just thought I'd mention it!

Please forgive me for posting here, but I just tried to start a new thread. It disappeared.
So, I was wondering what the Germans thought of the new site, so went to that forum. There I saw a thread titled something like: Fehler: bitte hier melden. It was here: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/431909
I got an entire page of code! Yikes!!

I cannot seem to be able to start a new thread, so I will post my issue here:
I used to be able to enter a BCID, and then see all the old JEs on the book right away on the first screen that comes up. But now it fails to display ANY old JE data for the book, while prompting me to fill in all my finder data and comments.
A new feature? Used to be that I would always rely on seeing the old JE info, to decide what to post about a found book. But now it's like journalling blind, I hate it. A new BCer would have no clue what is expected to post about a particular book they might find. Talk about a major disincentive. Too many potential AFers already ignore BC labels in books as it is, and my belief is that this *feature* change will dramatically increase that give up and ignore factor, upon their first visit.
On my particular systme it worked fine in the old BC with my old PC setup, but I am on Win95, IE 5. I know, I'm a dinosaur, but it worked before the Beta. So anybody else experiencing this?

Most of my friends are missing. Also, if I try to choose page 2 or 3 of this forum I get an error. I can't save updates and my wishlist has granted and removed books on it. My map is missing. The site looks great but nothing I've tried doing since the change has worked. I can't register/release or JE books. I can't see 1/2 of the forums. I get errors or it says to login even though it shows me as logged in. HELP!
Hi I can not make a release note. Also it seems that the only thing I am able to do is to look at my bookshelf and IM friends whom I am not even sure if they got the IM. I keep getting error messages when I try to do anything else. I am using IE as my browser. I hope the release notice will be fixed by next week for I will be releaseing book then no matter if it is working or not.
cant we have a option to have the old one BACK!!?
No. That site doesn't exist anymore. As Bruce has explained, it's simply not possible to run two versions at the same time.
And my wishlist is SOOOOOOOO messed up!
That'll be fixed soon. Just have a little patience. It's not exactly the most important thing on the site. But a fix is in the works.
DWAB – Search for specific books on MY SHELF - so I can SWIFTLY either review what’s on journal entries or make JE’s.
I'm using Google Chrome through Windows XP Home Edition 5.1
SEARCH - Doesn’t work as Before - I used to be able to key in a book title and/or author THEN – IMPORTANTLY - tick a “my shelf box” and SWIFTLY go straight to that specific book AND be able to EDIT / ADD to a Journal Entry + make a RELEASE on it. (SMOOTH RUNNING BLISS)
OK so here’s the thing I don’t want to use the BCID: to find books, UNLESS I am making my first journal entry on another bookcrossers registered book. I have dyslexia and I avoid typing numbers as I transpose them continually, it’s a frustration beyond hair tearing out stage. There’s absolutely no contest it’s much easier for me to recall and type out a book title or author, than a number. (Though I guess this goes for most folks without dyslexia too.)
CURRENT – Now going into Search to look for a specific book title and/or author takes me to what used to be the global overview, then it seems I have to click on a tab which takes me to all the copies registered on bookcrossing. And, if the book was not registered by me, to find it I will have to remember which bookcrosser registered the copy I have!*?!
MY NEED – all I want is to get swiftly to specific books on MY SHELF, using book title and/or authors names, so I can work on journal entries.
I’M HOPING – I’m mistaken and I’ve totally missed the right way to search for the books on my shelf as I want too? Or perhaps this is a early days thing and when the site is settled, I’ll be able to Search for a book title and/or author AND – IMPORTANTLY – filter (is that the correct function name) by screen name and get directly to the copy on my bookshelf. Please tell me this is going to be the case?
APOLOGIES - I think this might be tortuously long winded and am worried I’ve made a horrible mistake and have missed a simple explanation to my woes. I have done my best to try different ways round this issue also I am uncertain which words accurately describe the functions I want to use and I have excessive difficulty (I think its because of the dyslexia) in being concise. (It’s a pain read - many minutes of swearing, and tears of frustration at my having taken about three hours to research and write this.) Issues present themselves to me as a fog of information and the specifics are only determined by my going over the whole story repeatedly, and from as many different directions as possible.
If anyone is kind enough to reply to me directly please note, as my profile highlights I’ll be, in essence, offline from Sunday 30th may till Friday the 25th of June. By which time… I’m hoping this will not be an issue. Though I’m frightened if I don’t mention this issue it may not be considered and dealt with hence my posting.

No worries. The very first thing mentioned on the Roadmap is this:
'Search feature upgrade! (limit to my own shelf, compare to another screenname, location search, etc).'
You'll find the Roadmap through the link at the very bottom of every page.
Ah Roadmap, thanks Moem! And joy!!! As you say, Search Options Upgrade, it's the first thing up there BEAM!!!
How did I miss going to look at the Roadmap, think I suspected it was going to be in tech speak. Like, "In error. Please use the twiddling toggle function in zq4 linking through the new fizz prong, after resetting the default to starline time zone Zogg" .. sort of stuff that seems to comes up when ever my pc goes into "Whoa What?" mode.

I have tried to sort the books on my shelf. I tried to log out and log back in. It only allows me to sort by registration date. I wanted to sort by author, or title. Nothing worked. When sort is applied it automatically defaults back to sort by registration date. I can live with this bug or glitch but it is frustrating. I know the tech team is working feverishly to fix whatever problems are being reported. Your continued efforts are appreciated.
One problem I had (the now you see it, now you don't picture on my Bookshelf) has now been resolved, but I still can't delete anything off my Wishlist, which now consists entirely of books I've read and not of anything I actually wished for. Also, bizarrely, if I click on any of these books, I get an option to "Add to Wishlist" (but not remove).
Has anyone yet worked out how to delete?
Has anyone yet worked out how to delete?
I have noticed that the title of one of the books on my wishlist has suddenly morphed into either German or Dutch and there doesn't seem to be any way to either edit or delete it.
The only active link takes me to an overview of the book - admittedly in English, so I know what the book should be. How do I edit the information so that the title shows in English?
