My daughter, Becky (BC screen name N-R-Jyzer), was killed on 30 August 2010 when she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle. She would have celebrated her 17th birthday next Valentine's Day. During each of the last seven years, we have remembered her and celebrated her short life by releasing books in her memory. It has been extremely gratifying to see books being released around the world in her honor.
I would like to continue this release challenge again this year. The challenge will run the entire month of February 2018, but is especially focused on 14 February 2018. Any children's books would be appropriate for this release, but here is a list of theme ideas that would reflect Becky and her interests: She loved animals in general and particularly cats and horses. She enjoyed skiing, soccer, horseback riding and bicycling. She was a fan of Winnie-the-Pooh, Harry Potter, Disney Fairies, and the Magic Treehouse books. She had also just discovered the Beverly Cleary and Nancy Drew books during the last few months of her life. And because she was born on Valentine's day, books that are somehow related to the ideas of love, hearts, hugs, valentine's or her favorite colors (pink and red) would all also be appropriate.
Please indicate in release note or a journal entry that the book is being released in Becky's memory. If you could also include a link to the Becky's Hugs page ( http://www.BeckysHugs.com/
), it would be greatly appreciated. If you are registering books specifically for this challenge, there are Becky's Hugs bookplates available from the supply store: https://goo.gl/bUWGDv
. You can also download printable labels (compatible with the Avery 5163/8163, 2 inch x 4 inch, 10 to a page format) here: http://www.bcindc.zoiks.org/---/remembering-becky
Any books released for this challenge will be appreciated (both wild and controlled releases are welcome). My personal goal will be to release at least one book every day during February, and 17 on Valentine's day to celebrate Becky's seventeenth birthday.
If you have any questions, please post them here and I'll try to answer them. I'm looking forward to seeing the books released in February! When February rolls around, post links to your releases here as well. Thanks.
