Coming in February: 2018 Asian Zodiac / Year of the Dog Challenge

2018's Asian zodiac animal is the dog, and Chinese (Lunar) New Year falls on February 16 (the same date is also celebrated by Korea and some other Asian countries, and a number of countries follow the same zodiac cycle).

To allow for two weeks before & after that date, this challenge will run from February 2 to March 1 wherever you are.

Any type of release accepted; multi-challenge releases are encouraged.

Qualifying books should have a picture of a dog or puppy or one of these words in the title or author's name (if releasing books in another language, the word should translate into something dog-related):

bitch
brindle
bulldog
canine / canid
collie
cur
dog / doggie / doggy
hound
husky
mastiff
mongrel
mutt
pinscher
pointer
pooch
poodle
pup / puppy
retriever
schnauzer
setter
shepherd
spaniel
spitz
terrier
whelp

*** the word list is a work-in-progress, so check here before you release! ***

Any dog breed is ok, but the book's title must include the full name of the breed, not just the adjectives at the beginning: "cocker spaniel" works, but not just "cocker". If you're using a breed name, be sure to point it out in your post.

AKC list of dog breeds: http://www.akc.org/---/dog-breeds

Just a few actions, because dogs should be easier to find than chickens, I hope...

bark
fetch
heel
howl
paw
slobber
wag
woof
yip
yowl

Also acceptable:

12
animal
astrology
cycle
lunar
moon
new
sign
symbol
twelve
xii
year
zodiac

As suggested by GoryDetails:

Any book with the number of a Year of the Dog in the title will work:
1862, 1874, 1886, 1898, 1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, etc. You can extend the list out in either direction with multiples of 12 or use a calculator like this one: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/---/zodiac - I recommend using a mid-year date to avoid the ambiguity caused by the moveable date of the lunar New Year.

Embedded words are ok (because I don't want to make this *too* hard, and because I think it's fun to look for them). If you prefer not to use embedded words, that's fine too.

If you think of another word that should be on the list, go ahead and ask.

I know this challenge is still a few months away but I thought I'd put my hand up before I forgot!

Now on the hunt for canine-related books...

Thanks for posting early so we can look for doggies.

Thanks for posting early so we can look for doggies.

I expect dogs to be easier than chickens, but we're in the midst of the fall church rummage sale season here, so I thought I should mention the challenge for those of you who like to plan in advance. :)

...but PLEASE must mention the appropriate logo in your post here. Including a picture of the logo in a journal entry is even better.

Spent some time this morning tidying my Mt TBRs (yes, there's more than one!). I thought I'd group my unread books into themes to make them easier to find and read for various release challenges.

Have found a couple of dog-related books I didn't know I had, including one called "Shaggy Muses: The Dogs That Inspired [various female authors]".

Perfect for this challenge!

"Howl" about...WOOF, ARF, and BOW WOW, hyphen8 (Spencer Quinn's Series aka Peter Abrahams)? ; D They are Bowser and Birdie Children's Mystery Novels, so maybe BOWSER would count, too? ; ) Sorry, they are also currently in a box in storage and not registered yet, so I don't have any links to provide at this time.

Here's a link for information about the Author that includes a list of his Series. ; ) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Abrahams_(American_author)

"Howl" about...WOOF, ARF, and BOW WOW

Added woof to the list.

Remember, doggie pictures on the cover work too, so that ought to take care of "Arf" and "Bow Wow".

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
