2017 Wine+Food release challenge, Feb. 22 - Mar. 7: [POST HERE]

The two-week Wine+Food+BXing challenge is on for 2017!

Bookczuk began this challenge several years ago as a loosely organized *short* Challenge centered around a local Food/Wine Festival in Charleston SC, her hometown, (See its info here if you might be in the area: http://charlestonwineandfood.com/ .) If there are any interesting food- or wine-related events in your area, feel free to mention them in your release notes, and if they're taking place while the challenge is on, you could even release books there!

Re books to release: Pretty much anything goes as long as you can relate the book somehow to food or beverages. Embedded words are okay, as are releases to OBCZs. Wild releases preferred, but controlled are OK. I'll award wings-for-a-month or a wishlist book to the person with the most releases, and to another randomly-chosen participant.

So what can you release?

Cookbooks are good. Books with food in the title or author-name are even better:

Driving Over Lemons
Like Water for Chocolate
Five Quarters of an Orange
I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti
Traveling with Pomegranates

Books with some passing relation to any of the above are also good:

Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession
Road Food
The Main Corpse (and other punny food/meal-themed titles)
A Pirate's Tale (for the embedded "ate")
Kitchen Confidential

And books with food on the cover are also good. In short, if you make me believe that it fits, it will count.

Multiple challenges are fine too, in fact I encourage them - and since this challenge overlaps both February and March, you can double-up some of these releases with the February challenges and others with the March ones.

Have fun!

Sure - I'll edit the post accordingly. (I've enjoyed books by the intriguingly-named Banana Yoshimoto; that'd be a good example!)

Sorry...couldn't resist. ; D

This isn't the first release I've made for this Challenge of yours, GoryDetails...but it is the first I've been able to post, as I have quite a debacle going on with my Becky's Hugs releases and some missing President's and Birds, as well.

1. Eternity by Greg B[EAR]...Multiple Challenges

Embedded EAR in Author's last name...for Southern Style Down-Home Pig EAR...I'll pass. ; ) Finished plate is about 4:30 into the clip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Heh! If you'd actually found "pig's ear" it would have been exceptionally cool. As it is, while ears are (kinda-sorta) edible, I think the full name "bear" would be a more obvious choice. Or would you rather eat pig ears than bear meat? {grin}

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Well, I actually thought I had a copy of THIS one SOMEwhere...hence the "lookey here" up there ; ) https://www.amazon.com/---/0374527687 , and I may well have (I STILL have some boxes in storage and several have Friends of the Library Books I've yet to register), but alas...maybe for next year. Not certain I'd be too keen on bear meat, and while I was going more for the "obscure" embedded word in the Title, I'm definitely not eating pig ears. I've eaten elk before, and it isn't too bad, as it doesn't taste as gamey as deer. Not really big on any animal meat though, as my system doesn't digest it well. I do have some releases that have been made that I haven't had a chance to do official release notes on with Flat Stanley visiting here from England since last Friday, so thanks for the extra few days to post (#38) you are allowing down there. ; ) I will get with the program after DESSERT (a themed coming, too)!!! : D

Thanks to everyone who participated! We released 169 books in 3 countries, and 6 US states - not bad for a 2-week challenge.

Solittletime has opted out of prizes, so the top-releaser award goes to NancyNova ( https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14455988 ) with 19 courses - er, releases. And I've rolled the dice for the second winner, which turns out to be...

... tabby-cat-owner ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14457690 )! I'll be in touch re your prizes. And thanks again to everyone for playing.

Update: prizes are on the way!

19. Cat Who Played Post Office by Lilian Jackson Braun
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11093734

The [CAT] Who Played Post Office by Lilian Jackson Braun...I actually found this to be a bit disturbing, as are some of the images shown in the slideshow offered in this link to the article (I'm not certain it's working and NEED to get this posted, so you may have to cut and past it into your browser to read the article) http://www.thedailymeal.com/9-countries-eat-cats-and-dogs/11414, however...there are at least nine countries, including the US (Taiwan, the US, the Actic, Korea, Mexico, China, French Polynesia, Switzerland, and Vietnam), where cats and dogs are indeed used as a food source. They are commonplace on many menus in Vietnam, Korea, and China, are eaten as solo meals or added to other meat dishes for a touch of extra flavor, and in some cases the meat or lard is even used for medicinal purposes.

Some great releases there! There are a few that I wouldn't count ("Captain Crunch" is a good try but would only count if the whole phrase was together in the title; "brown + fire = s'mores" is a really valiant attempt, but no {grin}), but most of 'em are excellent choices for this challenge. Thanks for playing!

I didn't realize the embedded words needed to be together, but that does make perfect sense, and I'll try to remember that for next year...thanks, GoryDetails!!! ; )
"brown + fire = s'mores" is a really valiant attempt, but no {grin})
HAHAHAHAHA!!! That's okay. ; ) Release challenges really do FIRE up my inner creativity, and since the FIRE toasted marshmallow does turn brown...well, I thought I'd give it a whirl. Actually, I only wanted this one in there because of the ending pun...
See you for S'MORE of this fun next year!!!
As it turns out, I came back here just now because I still need to post some of these Multiple Challenge releases in the other challenges, and I realized that since I released that one on International Women's Day, which was the 8th, and since your Challenge ended on the 7th, it would absolutely be disqualified on that count. ; )
but most of 'em are excellent choices for this challenge. Thanks for playing!
Thank you, I had a great time. Maybe there are a few laughs and some ideas in that confusing list to help others find some more books for next year. I think it would be better if I listed the entire title by the books link, and I'm changing my total to 18, not 20 for this year. ; )
Profile Image
Well...looks like I'm down to only 17 releases for this year, because in doing some editing to put the untainted Titles with the link to the books up there for easier "viewing", I found that I have one book listed twice (#7 and #17), albeit for some different foods. ; ) With all of my health issues taking away so many things, and no results on my Brain MRI yet...I hate to have to think I need to quit participating in Release Challenges now, too...but I think I am trying to do too much at the same time (I think I told Secretariat that not too long ago...in regards to my love of combining Multiple Challenges, etc.) and need to scale back a bit, as this growing old stuff is for the BIRDS!!! ; )
Profile Image
Thanks to everyone who participated! We released 169 books in 3 countries, and 6 US states - not bad for a 2-week challenge.

Well done everyone!

I know this has traditionally been a short challenge but I'd love it to be a little longer next year. I barely had time to make a dent in my collection of food-themed books!

I'd be happy if it were longer too! I'd love if it could be a month. Whatcha think, Gory?

I suppose it could be a full month - mid-February to mid-March. Will try and remember that for next year!
