"Guess what to release" - We have the winners!!!

Dear Fellow Bookcrossers all over the world,

Our first Athens pre-convention challenge is finishing today and not to waste time we would like to propose to you a new one where you would have to guess what to release by solving riddles. Participants from different nations will form teams of 4 to 6 members depending on the total number of participants. This will give you the opportunity to get to know each other before the convention, even though coming to Athens for the convention will not be obligatory for participating in this challenge.

EDIT: REVISED RULES
"There will be 10 multiple riddles, book related when possible, the same for all teams. Once you solve the first one you will pass on to the second one etc. By solving a multiple riddle you will find the first or last name of the author or a word in the title or the name of the hero of the book you should release or the kind of place you should release your book at etc. You can make as many attempts to solve the riddle as you like, and thus make as many releases as you like. It will be in your interest to make even some misleading releases to confuse your opponents.
If you find the riddle too difficult, you may ask for hints/clues, but they will cost you.
The books you release may be in any language. For example if the name of the author is John, you can translate it, no worries, I don't expect you to have english books.

All releases should be wild. Each time you make a release you will post the release link at this thread for all to see http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/527320
and if it is a real attempt to solve the riddle, you should send me an e-mail to this address with the solution to the riddle with full explanatio together with the release link. Only when you will get it right, challengesophia will reply to you by sending you the next multiple riddle.

Every week, challengesophia will post at the challenge thread, the points won by each team and at which riddle they are. The challenge will take place from February 1st 2016 until one team solves all the riddles.

Points:
A successful release with full explanation 20 points and will help you pass to the next level, with photo +10 points.
-in case you find the solution of the riddle with full explanation, but none of you has the appropriate book, release a closely related one and get 16 points and 2 days less in passing to the next riddle, with photo +8 points.
-in case you find the solution of the riddle by chance but you don't have a full explanation only 12 points and 4 days delay in passing to the next riddle, with photo +6 points.
-in case you find the solution to the riddle by chance, with no explanation and none of you has the appropriate book, release a closely related one and get 8 points and 6 days less in passing to the next riddle, with photo +4 points.

All other releases, regardless of relevance 1 point each, with photo +1 point
1 hint--> 1 point less and 1 day delay

The team that will find all 10 multiple riddles first will be the big winner of the challenge. The team with the most points following the first team will be the second winner. Awards will be announced in due time."

So if you want to participate send a pm to challengesophia until the 30 of January 2016 by mentioning your country of residence and if you are planning to attend the Athens Convention. Teams will be announced on the 31th of January and on the 1st of February you will all get your first multiple riddle.

Any questions you might have you may post them here, and they will be replied as fast as possible.

You may find an example of a riddle at the related post at the http://www.athensbc2016.com/---/new-challenge-guess-what-to-release

Hi everybody,
Please send your personal messages to me to enter the challenge. Please mention what languages you speak. If your English is not so good, don't worry, you don't need English to solve the riddles. Also, I will try to put you in a team with at least another person who speaks your native language.
Every 2 days I will write down the names of the participants in the challenge, so that you know if your friends are in.
Btw how did you find the example riddle too easy, too difficult?

Profile Image
By solving a multiple riddle you will find the first or last name of the author or a **word in the title** or the name of the hero of the book you should release or the kind of place you should release your book at etc.

As for words in the title, does the word have to be in English, or can it be in any language?

As long as you find the word-solution of the riddle, you can translate it in any language, but on your pm, you will have to give me the word=solution in English, and precise to me its translation on your book title. The released books do not have to be in English.

Hey there,
Last day to enter the challenge. Some of you have said that the riddle example was too difficult. Please don't get discouraged by this. You will be working together to solve them, and in any case, I will make the riddles easier, and if I see that you are stuck, I will give you hints. Every hint I give you will take one point of your score and one day delay in giving you the next hint.
Don't miss the fun!!!

Hi everybody,
Thank you for your participation. I will send each of you a pm, but I post the teams here for everyone to see. You are 16 after all, so there will be 4 teams of 4 persons. I tried to combine languages and whenever possible to have members living in different countries or cities.
Here are the teams in random order.

1st Team "Ergani": C-maupin(fr), Jemlire(fr), Lubiette(gr & fr), StrangeEmily(gr)

2nd Team "Apokalypsi": Lena60(gr), Merolia(gr), Stinalyn(us), Travelina(no)

4th Team "Argonauts" : Elenaiah(gr), Krissa33 (fr), Linguistkris(de), pengman(gr & de)

Get to know eachother, exchange e-mails, choose a name for your team if you wish, and be sure to send me an e-mail, where I could send you the first riddle tomorrow.

Good luck to all of you and let the games begin!!!!

For your information, there's a spelling error in my username, an E too much. It should be CathrineB. I have to admit I'm so used to seeing my name written with that extra E, that I don't always notice it :)

Hello from the second team, with the name: Team Apocalipsi!

Haven't you managed to come up with a team name yet, team 1, 3, 4? To buzzy solving riddles...?
:-) :-) :-)

So we are proud to announce our team name: Ergani.

Ergani is one of the names of Athena, the goddess - protector of the Athenians. Ergani means the one who works and creates, as she was the inventor of all arts!

Hi everybody,

Would you be so kind as to write to me only at challengesophia2016@gmail.com thanks!
Some of you asked me some questions, I answer them here as well, so as to avoid overlaps
1. If you release 3 or 4 books with the right answer, only one will get the winning 20+10 points.
2. You may use the same release for this challenge and for another one, I don't mind.
3. In case you need to change the release for the right answer, no problem at all, as long as you tell me.

Finally a reminder, I only reply to you when your attempt is right, not if it is wrong. So if you haven't received a confirmation that you found it yet, this means that you have to guess again...

Btw, love your releases!!!

How do we know that simply you haven't replied yet?
Are you supposed to answer within e.g. X hours / Y days in the worst case?

First of all, as long as you see me commenting here, this mean that I am checking my e-mails. So, guess again.
Second, it won't be days by no means, definetely less than a day. I will try to do it as fast as possible.

Good morning everybody,

Well done to all of you, you all have found the solution to the first riddle!

For those of you who don't participate at the challenge officially and want to see it and try to solve it on your own, you may find it on the following webpage:

Good luck to everybody!!!

Due to the fact that you were very very fast in solving the first riddle, I decided to let at least half a day pass before I give you the next riddle, so that the challenge won't finish in a week.
Also, I made the second one much less obvious than the first one. I had to slow you down.

Good luck again!!!

First of all, although it is quite interesting to see how you communicate with eachother, it adds up to a big work load, so please, try not to include me on your team conversations. Team .... don't take it personnally, it is not just you. It is a commno mistake with reply to all.

Second, I never could have imagined that these 3 books had so many things in common, apart from the thing I thought, which for the time being is secure. Thanks to you guys (chance and me after all), I have learnt so many many things about these books. Once all teams solve the riddle, I will sum them all up, and show them to you. It is so educating, you will be amazed!!!

Heh, I asked Sophia the same thing when it was raining here so much on the first day of the challenge. Here is what she said (and I hope sharing this is okay):

They have to be wild releases. You could for example release inside a cafe, restaurant, covered shopping mall, train station, you name it! But thank you anyway for the remark, which I will take into consideration the weather when I will indirectly ask to release somewhere.

So judging from the releases I have seen here, bookshelves in cafés or hostels may be an acceptable kind of OBCZ, while Little Free Libraries (or other "books-only" places) are not.

Sophia, please correct me if I got it wrong. :)
Profile Image
Thank you linguistkris for covering for me.

Releases at OBCZ are not wild, so they are not accepted.

When I was talking about wild releases in a coffee place, I was thinking about leaving it on a table, or chair for example, but the coffee place must NOT in any case be a OBCZ.
Leave it outside a library building, ok but not next to other books.
In general, better not leave it next to other books.

Challengesophia, I am curious to know your thinking behind not allowing releases at an OBCZ as wild releases for the sake of this competition, different from the "official" definition of a wild release. Do you think we make to few releases in the "real wild" and want to facilitate that, or what is your reasoning? I am just asking as it is interesting to know.

From Bookcrossing Frequently Asked Questions:
"Q104:What is a "wild release"?
BookCrossing is all about wild releases of books. The very act of placing a book someplace for some person to find is what we call releasing it into the wild.
(When you give or send a book to a specific individual, it's called a "controlled release").
When you release a book into the wild, you can use our handy-dandy Release Book page to do so. By using that page, a Release Note is generated and sent to all BookCrossers who have signed up for release alerts for a given location, and there is also the opportunity to have the book's travels mapped on our world-wide release maps.
Wild releases will also show up on our Go Hunting pages."

I've been wondering about this myself as well.

I would consider a release at an OBCZ just as wild as a release at a random cafe table or a bench in the park. In all of these places, the book will be free for everyone to pick up, and we won't know who will pick up the book (in opposite to controlled releases, where we know who we give the book too).

Oh yes I had never thought that OBCZ or places for exchanging books are different than wild releases. Especially cases like ανταλλακτική βιβλιοθήκη is totally wild from my point of view, as anybody can take it or not, just like on a bench. I am afraid I have already released a book in a random boekkast.
Profile Image
I don't really know the exact reasoning, but as far as I remember most greek release challenges had a condition not to release in OBCZ, however not counting exchange libraries or places with books in general. I always thought this was in order to encourage us to release with a little more "risk" and hope for the book to get caught by non-bookcrossers. Speaking for myself, most of my wild releases, and especially the inventive ones, were made thank to release challenges.

But in most greek challenges not including OBCZ is a rule announced in the beginning of the game and not the middle (after 100 releases). And as you say random shelves of books or little libraries have not been under discussion before. in addition sophia hasn't answered herself yet.

Releases

Well, it was a misconception of mine. I really thought OBCZ were out of the question and releasing inside libraries. So, you may use the official definition of "wild releases". I don't mind as long as you solve the riddles.
I don't think that the place of the release is what was important to you so far. And in any case, it is much easier to release a book, to a park or caffe next to you, rather than having to go to an OBCD.
