Welcome to the challenge!!!

I’m at least the third hostess for this weekly challenge, which has been continuous for many, many years.

GUIDELINES AND RULES:

Each Saturday a book cover is posted as the theme for the coming week. The object is to find books with the themed cover for the week and release them within the week. For instance, the week’s theme might be cover with a pen showing on the cover (modern or quill) or the word pen within the title of the book; or the colors yellow and pink showing on the cover; or authors named Christopher.

Sometimes we will have a “Mystery Namer” – someone other than me who will set up the challenge.

1) Saturday is overlap day when either the previous week's cover can be released or the new cover can be released. FOR EUROPE, Sunday is the overlap day.
2) Both the front and the back of the book are considered “the cover,” so pictures on the back are acceptable.
3) Any kind of release is OK but only catches from wild releases will count.
4) Each person must keep track of their releases each week which must be posted here with a link to the JE. PLEASE DO NOT go back and edit a previous post and add more releases to it, but make a new post for releases of any given week.
5) If you wild release a book and it gets caught then you have a release counted and a catch counted. However, if the person who caught the book releases it and it gets caught again - that's not another catch for you since you didn't do the second release.
6) When you have a cover which could work for 2 consecutive weeks, then you must to decide for which week to count it as a release (remember that it’s only one book and can only be counted once).
7) Anyone is welcome to join this challenge at any time and you can participate as much as you like. You can begin on Week 1 or Week 31 or Week 51, whatever suits you.

IF YOU DON’T WISH TO BE A MYSTERY NAMER, YOU CAN ALWAYS SEND ME SUGGESTIONS FOR BOOK COVERS! I will periodically use them.

(This is just copied from the 3rd quarter thread, as week 40 belongs to quarter 4 after all)

Week 40 is...

Identity of word and picture:
Something mentioned in the title must also be visible in the cover illustration.

You may split compound words if necessary, but an embedded word that has nothing to do with the actual word in the title won't count.

I'll give some examples.

If you want to release "Rose and Sword" there should be a rose or sword in the cover picture. "The green book of trees" should have something green, a book, or a tree in the cover art. "David Copperfield" could show a boy who you believe is supposed to be David, but also some copper or a field, since the word "Copperfield" has clearly been created by combining copper and field. However, a cop wouldn't count.

Footnote: You probably won't need the compound word rule in english but in some other languages. For example, "fox hunt" is ONE word in german ("Fuchsjagd" as a compound of "Fuchs" and "Jagd"), and a picture of a fox should of course totally be valid here.

Have fun!

IMHO the 3rd quarter thread should be considered closed, now that the 4th quarter thread is available.

What ekorren said. Thanks.

Week 40 #1
1. Sushi for Beginners - picture of sushi on the cover
http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12044027

1. The Summer of the SWANs, http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12113484/
(picture of swan on cover, "swan" in title")

1. The Devil's Arms - picture of the guy, with his arms crossed, on the cover http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12123859/

In the U. S. the 12th of October is a celebration of Christopher Columbus and his "discovery" of North America (okay--we all know he wasn't the first, but nevertheless, it's what we celebrate). With that in mind, this week's cover needs to show a BOAT or SHIP. Any kind will do, but the idea is to suggest voyages by ocean/sea.

Good luck!

This one probably will be a challenge for you. The weather here and in Europe is getting cooler and there's a snap in the air in the morning. The trees are beginning to turn red, yellow, gold, and orange. So, our cover should have:

Trees or leaves in autumn or fall colors or the title should have the word: Fall or Autumn.

Good luck.

Ack. Off to the thrift shop for me..not many fall leaves around here. And the Halloween books I have on hand are not being helpful. :p

The one I finished has spring, not autumn on it. Off to the availables stash to see if I have something that works.
