I was just going to post a release I'm doing tonight and realised it's still November !!!!

Complete Thread
...and go!

The D for December challenge runs 12/1 to 12/31 your time; post your releases and wild catches here.

1) Books must be released during the period from December 1 to December 31. No need to sign up - join in at any time!

2) The challenge is to release books that have a the letter "D" beginning a word in the main title OR the author's name.

* Dean Koontz, John D. Rockfeller, and Charles Dickens will all count. Scott O'Dell won't, sorry.

* Main title means anything before the colon but not afterwards. For example, _Ice Bound: A Doctor's Incredible Battle For Survival at the South Pole_ and _Stolen Lives: Twenty Years in a Desert Jail_ wouldn't count. Series names don't count unless they're part of the actual book title, so _Tea Time for the Traditionally Built_, while part of the No. 1 Ladies' Dectective Agency Series, wouldn't count..but the first book in the series is actually *titled* _The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency_ so it would be fine.

3) Any type of release counts: wild releases, charity releases, controlled releases, books left at OBCZs or Little Free Libraries, sent out as rings/rays, books in bookboxes, etc.

4) Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and proper nouns in any language count

* Only the first letter of an acronym/initialism counts- as in D.A.R.E. but not M.A.D.D.

* Articles don't count- - for instance, if the word "the" begins with the letter D in your language, it doesn't qualify. (Besides, you should release those for RockDg9's
"The The" challenge during November!)

* If your language doesn't use the same sort of characters as English, it should be a word that begins with the same sound as the letter D in English (in other words, it would be transliterated into a D in for English speakers). I'll have to take your word for it at least 99 and 44/100% of the time, so please play fair! ;)

5) One point per book, regardless of how many D words are in the title. So _Darkness Before Dawn _ and _Double or Die_ only count once each!

6) Multi-challenge releases are perfectly fine, and even encouraged (because they're more fun).

7) There will be a few small prizes, probably for random participants.

If you have questions, just ask. :)

Previous years:

2008 - 18 participants / 202 books: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/376461

I just reread the rules and found my posting doesn't make sense any more ;)

However, there's still the fact that I plan to join.

Glad to have you: I show that you (ekorren) released 61 D books last year - that was the second highest number (BruceAlexander had 75).

...and getting rid of a lot of books.

That was the general idea - get lots of books moving before the end of the year.

2009: tabby-cat-owner released 19 D books
2010: tabby-cat-owner released 23 D books
2011: tabby-cat-owner released 23 D books

I'm up for getting more books moving - if only I *can* {wry grin}! Will try this challenge this year.

Glad to have you - it doesn't seem like you ever have trouble finding books to release. ;)

do more last year, but we lost our precious greyhound Tunku on Dec.12th and I was devastated.

Sorry to hear about your greyhound.

You had one D release last year...but one release is ok too. It still counts as participating in the challenge. :)

So sorry about Tunku, it is so sad to lose a pet.

Thanks Sha, he was only 6 1/2 years old, so it was came at us out of left field. It was all so sudden we were in shock. Dec. 27th we rescued another grey called Tank, he is crazy, smaller with lots of attitude, nothing like or Royal Prince. In Sept. we did an emergency rescue of a 15 year old grey, a little fawn waif and have decided to adopt her also. We feel there is no guarantee so why not give her the love and security of a permanent home.

Good for you maggiemuffet - rescuing pets is a wonderful thing to do. :)

Thanks Hypen, it is so rewarding, even though there is heartbreak.

I was just going to post a release I'm doing tonight and realised it's still November !!!!

Hoping to get this OBCZ running soon, and will plan to hold any "D" books until next month! (I've never played this challenge before, so no need to hunt up my "old" stats."

:)

You're starting an OBCZ? Good for you!

I'd better start looking for my D books. I need to have something to release for my own challenge! :p

I am a new member, trying to become an active member. I would like to join the fun (please). I can not believe it is almost December!

Looks like you're doing a good job - your bookshelf page shows a lot of activity for someone who's only been a member for two weeks! Happy to have you as part of the challenge. :)

Yes, you (geishabird) released 6 D books last year. Thanks for playing again. :)

Looks great, except it's always best NOT to include the first three digits of the BCID in any forum postings. Anyone who has those numbers can make a journal entry for your books, whether they've actually seen them or not...

Could you please edit your post to take them out? (Click on the title of your post, and it should reload with the option to edit it.)
