Note: You can release all month long, though some of us like to release all or most of our books on Halloween night, to the trick or treaters.

Rules, mostly the same as last year:

1 - Any type of release is ok! (OBCZ, mailing, wild, controlled, etc)
2 - All types of books are good - including children's and non-English books. You may use the title of the book, the author's name *OR* the picture. (Please state what the picture is in your post, though!) Plurals are also ok (ie Spirits, Ghosts, Monsters)
3 - Embedded words are ok! (But please tell us what the word is, I am terrible about finding embedded words.)
4 - The Challenge starts October 1st and ends at Midnight, October 31st your time zone.
5 - Dual/Overlapping challenges are ok!!
6 - Please DON'T post planned releases, only releases that you have actually done.
7 - Please put a link to the Release Challenge in your journal entry or release note.

Here is a link to info on Halloween bookplates, which are available through the site, and optional to use. Click on the image of the bookplate to order from the site: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/9772873/

Please post your releases with number, title and link, like this:

If you have questions about words/pictures not on this list, please post your questions here. I may add them to the list. I don't plan any prizes again this year, just a handy place to post your Halloween releases. I know I'll have some as this will be the 5th or 6th year I've given out books along with candy to the trick or treaters. It's lots of fun. And in my experience, the kids love it. Will anyone join me?

After 4 years of living in an apartment and then the country with no trick or treaters---I am so ready for this year! I plan on putting a table somewhere in the yard with a Free Book sign---somewhere I can't see it so my releases will be wild. I did it before and all the books disappeared (along with my flashlight) so I'm super psyched!!!

Hope there was a BCID on that flashlight!

Welcome.

Looks like your link about Halloween bookplates is going to the wrong place. I get a link to Wind in the Willows...

Here's info about another Halloween label: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/7378147

I'll see which books I can find for this challenge. :)

Well, that was weird. I know I checked it before. In any case, I fixed the link. Thanks for the alternative label too.

#1. Busman's HoneyMOON ( http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11399072 ), wild release, multiple challenges.

HoneyMOON

Hi Gory! Welcome! Since I didn't make the original word list, just copied when I took over and added to it when folks ask me to, I forget some of the acceptable words myself. Forgot "moon" was on there. Gotta go check my shelves for moons. : )

1. http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11349719?... the big bad WOLF

Some good ones! But... I don't think "wolf" is on the list. I think it's wolfman.

So sorry slt!!! I was thinking embedded Wolf, but had a blonde moment as it isn't embedded and it isn't on the list. I don't know how to edit the post so I'll just post my next release as 4 instead of 5 and so on.

...of the post you want to edit, and you should see the "edit" link among the "reply"-link options. [Sometimes it takes a second click - not sure if that's browser-dependent or forum-view dependent or just random, but in any case, give it a try!]

Thanks, Gory!

LOTS of interesting releases. Added Sepulcher / sepulcher to the list.

In the past we have counted books that had specific words or images from the list, not all horror books.

Trying to decide if we should count any horror books, no matter what's on the cover or title. What does anyone else think?

First of all, thank you all for playing so enthusiastically. Great releases going on!

And you that release for cover pix (Gory for one) instead of words just amaze me. I never think of it unless the words are there. I guess you are more visually-oriented than I.

Which brings me to a question for you all: In the past we have counted books that had specific words or images from the list only, not all horror books.

I see some are releasing books that are horror genre even if not on the list. Trying to decide if we should count any horror books, no matter what's on the cover or title. What does anyone else think? I've love to get your opinion.

Sorry, I'm guilty of that - guess I just presumed horror was okay though I think I can get away with some released due to the covers. Please let me know if I need to adjust my totals....& keep up the great work :o)

19. http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11439742?... DEATH swatch

20. http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11436408?... MOONlight, madness and MAGIC

It doesn't matter to me either way if the Horror genre is included---but for me, the challenge of this Challenge is to find the words or images from the list. So, genre included or not, I'll just be releasing from the list (and there may be a few appropriate Horror books in those releases!) :)

Or is that not specific enough?

There is a picture of a shadow on the cover..cast by the children as they dicover the mysterious items that have appeared on the stairs.

4. The Headless Cupid - http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/11438579

There is a picture of a shadow on the cover..cast by the children as they dicover the mysterious items that have appeared on the stairs.

A picture of a shadow would work as that word is on the list.

Sorry I missed this question. I'm not sure about giant. I've never really heard of it having a Halloween connection. Why do you think it should be included?

Enchanter is good. I'll add it to the list soon.

How about "Mask", "Masked", and "Trickster"?

Trickster works because of the embedded Trick! Mask and Masked might work because costume is an acceptable word/picture.
