My daughter, Becky (BC screen name N-R-Jyzer), was killed on 30 August 2010 when she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle. She would have celebrated her 11th birthday next Valentine’s Day. Last year, BC-in-DC (our local BookCrossing group) issued a release challenge in Becky’s memory for Valentine’s Day, and I was overwhelmed by the response. It was gratifying to see books being released in my daughter’s memory around the world.

This year, I’m hoping to repeat the success of last year’s releases. The challenge will run the entire month of February 2012, but is especially focused on 14 February 2012. She loved cats and horses, soccer, skiing and bicycling, so books related to these topics would be appropriate to release, as would books that somehow relate to her favorite colors (pink or red), hearts, love, hugs or valentines (all of which represent her loving personality). Even if you can’t find books with any of these themed ideas, any children’s books would also be appropriate.

If you could indicate that the book is released in Becky’s memory in the release note or a journal entry, it would be appreciated, as would a link to the Becky’s Hugs page ( http://www.BeckysHugs.com ). For books being registered specifically for this challenge, there is a bookplate available from the supply store: http://tinyurl.com/4tvrllr and I have also created a label that will print on the Avery 5163/8163 size (i.e., 2 in. x 4 in.) label sheets (I am looking for somewhere to host them online and will update this with a link when they are available to download…in the meantime, if you’d like them, send me a PM with you e-mail address and I’ll send you the .pdf file).

If you have any questions, you can post them here and I’ll try to answer them. Thanks!

I'll keep some books aside!

I'm in again
ResQgeek, love and best wishes to you and the family for the holiday season. I know you've had your share of troubles recently and hope you can find some peace in spite of that.

When I was out finishing the holiday shopping on Monday I came across some children's books and picked them up with Becky-themed releasing in mind. I have also ordered the bookplates to put inside. I am hoping to exceed last year's numbers for my own releases, and was planning on 11 books on Valentine's Day itself.

Please keep us posted as to whether we will have a release walk -- I will be happy to help out in whatever way necessary.

I'm collecting a few books to release in memory of Becky. Good luck with your challenge. As you probably know, two of my last years ones were caught and journalled so I'm hoping for even more success next time.

Sounds like a theme for my book tree :) I have the labels too.

I'm in again too.

I'll save some to release for Becky.

Merry Christmas to you and yours .

Think I have quite a few that will fit well.

and will release for Becky.

Don't know why I didn't mention this in the original post, but my daughter was also a big Winnie-the-Pooh fan, so any books about Pooh (and his friends) would also be appropriate to release for this challenge.

I have today labelled 5 books ready to release in memory of Becky and two are Winnie the Pooh books! I'm planning to release 3 in the changing room at the gym, where I have lots of success with journalled catches, and the other two on a footpath leading to a school and pre-school where lots of children have got used to looking for my books recently. Will do the links on here when I've done my release notes-all scheduled for release on Tuesday unless the weather is not good enough for the outside ones.
Here is the first one :-

Winnie the Pooh-Everyone is Special

ResQgeek, I would be honored to release books in Becky's memory. I have an 11-year-old daughter, too, and it sounds like she and Becky shared many of the same interests. We'll release some of Isabelle's books in Becky's memory. Thank you for the opportunity.

I'm happy to join.

• Post links to your releases in this thread.

• If you tweet your releases, please use the hashtag #beckyshugs

• While we probably don't want to clutter up the Becky's Hugs Facebook page with all of our releases and/or catches, if you have any that are especially moving or interesting, feel free to post them there as well.

This is a lovely way to memorialise her. Thinking of you and your family.

Last year I released 10; this year, my goal is 11.

I've updated the BCinDC page for Becky with info about the challenge and an easy way to get both types of labels ResQgeek created:

wingjmsmomwing 9 yrs ago
Question- I went out planning to get labels to print some up and release a few books for this challenge. My understanding on that link is it is Avery 5160 and that they are 2 X 4 inches. I found 5160 but it said they were 1 inch by 1 and some fraction, I forget, but not 2 X 4. I tried to look and see if any were 2 X 4 but didn't see any where I was. Do you know what the number is for the 2 X 4's?

I think the 2 in. x 4 in. labels are 5163/8163

Thanks for the reminder. I have two books here to register for Becky's Hugs, but forgot I had printed out a sheet of labels.

Oops! Sorry. Definitely my fault. The labels ResQgeek made are the 2inch x 4inch (10 on a sheet) Avery 5163/8163 template size labels.

releases here?

Controlled releases are fine, as long as it is in memory of Becky.

Red Butterfly: How a Princess Smuggled the Secret of Silk Out of China http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/10372644/

My hope for today is to release 11 books for Becky's 11th birthday.

Becky's school had a Chinese language and culture program, and she had enjoyed learning about the history and culture of China, and had been looking forward to learning to speak a little Chinese. All of which makes this an even more appropriate book to release in her memory. Thanks!

May the small efforts we are making in releasing our books in memory of Becky, help you through the day.

They are...Thank you, everyone!
