Okay, folks, I have survived another semester of school and I am ready to get the Book Box back out there. Taking sign-ups and interest. I will also double-check my email for messages I may already have. Planning to start the box out when I have 7 or 8 sign-ups, probably 3rd week of May-ish.

As you may know, this book box was originally the creation of MaryZee, who sadly left us 4 years ago, and I have continued it in her honor. Link to MaryZee's original thread, with info on the nature of the BookBox: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/465947. Short synopsis -- nonfiction books dealing with a specific subject, sometimes called a microhistory, i.e., The Secret Life of Lobsters (which will be in this round)

Perryfran <----1/10/20 box was here

FOR THE RECORD -- the books in the box when I sent it out
The Secret Life of Lobsters
A Crack in the Edge of the World
Playing with Trains
The Island at the Center of the World
Hot Peppers
Napoleon's Buttons
Ivory Vikings
The Chocolate Therapist
The Fortune Cookie Chronicles
The Lost City of Z
The War of the Worlds
The Irish Famine
Book Clubs
The Truth About History
How Soccer Explains the World
ABC Et Cetera
Periodic Table

Yes! I have a shelf that I use to store potential candidates for this bookbox; glad to see another round! (And congrats on getting through the semester!)

Still looking for participants other than Gory. I will send some PMs as well to the regulars

ETA -- that looks funny, I mean "in addition to Gory" who is loved and valued as a member of this BookBox for lo, these many years

{snerk!} Thanks for the edit! (I knew what you meant, though!)

I'll look to see what books I have that qualify.

now that I've got some that fit the theme

Sign me up please.
Like Gory, I keep a stack of books for this box! However I have recently released some so need a bit of time to get more ready.

On the other hand, I definitely need to do some reading before it arrives! Please add me to the list, but not too near the top.

Microhistory is a good capsule description; thanks for that, and for the PM.

The current order is purely arbitrary and can be adjusted as needed. Let me know if you have any objections to your placement.

Gory, if you are good to go first, PM me your address and I will put the box in the mail this week.

Thanks, guys!

I need to do some reading for this box, so later is better. Thanks!

On the Road
I put the box in the mail to GoryDetails this afternoon, May 10. Confirmation #9549 0104 2316 9130 2395 68. Expected arrival is Wednesday May 15.

I did adjust RhythmBiscuit's placement, but other adjustments can always be made. Just let me know, we are a pretty happy-go-lucky crew. As long as the box does not languish at anyone's home for more than 3 months, we should be fine. :)

Well, the box is a bit battered, but the books all seem fine, and that's what counts. Will try and get my selections made and move the box along fairly soon.

Got the box in the mail this afternoon, tracking # 9550212103489143237812 , estimated arrival 5/28. I've posted my choices and replacements in the bookbox journal, here:

Safe travels, and I hope everyone enjoys the bookbox!

I’ve thought about joining this one in the past but wasn’t sure I would have enough books that fit in. I now have quite a few that would work but need to do some reading so if you could add me down the list aways it would be great. Thanks!

Done. You are now the end of the list. Welcome aboard!

where it will stay for a week or so, while I finish reading the replacements. PM'g the next in line.

I'll copy and paste most of my entry from the little shuttle post card book and put it here:

I've been up and down through the journal entries in this little shuttle post card book, and cannot find a participation list with my name on it. If anyone who receives notification of this journal entry can help, please send a PM! Thank you so much!

Wow, we will file this under happy accident, then. Thank you for participating in the book box. I am glad we got this figured out -- I have been busy with school and have not been paying as much attention as I probably should have.

USPS Tracking # 9549 0154 1316 9163 2598 45 ☺ Happy Traveling, Books! ☺

I've got the bookbox here now. I'm getting it ready now to send it off to RhythmBiscuit as soon as I receive mailing information.

Looking forward to the box. Thank you!

Unfortunately, I did not get to the post office this week as I had planned. This box will go to elizardbreath early next week.

I mailed the box earlier this week. Tracking# 9549012652279199394185

I took out:
Glass, Paper, Beans
Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions
Caesar's Last Breath
Under the Black Flag: The Romance and Reality of Life Among the Pirates

I put in:
Salt: A World History
The Rosetta Stone and the Rebirth of Ancient Egypt
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
The Double Helix: A Personal Account of the Discovery of the Structure of DNA

I've got the box and will mail out 8/22. Thanks, rhythmbiscuit, I apologize for updating the thread so late!

What are the ground rules for this box - how many come out, how many books go back in?

Generally speaking, it is a standard one-for-one exchange, as long as the incoming book meets the theme of the box. Personally, I am fine with people adding one more than they take out or taking out one more than they add.

Other than that, there are not a lot of rules for this book box. Try to move it along within a few weeks, include the tracking number, etc.

I will post an update when it's ready to move.

Topics added to the box: the AIDS quilt, eclipses, lighthouses, the early Olympics, the Phantom of the Opera, See's candy, and Tommy guns.

Details in the bookbox journal, including tracking info & ETA: https://www.bookcrossing.com/---/12066669#28793332

Oh gosh you are too efficient!
Still in the middle of 2 books I hope to add. Have one more that I want to read too but probably that has to wait for another round...

Don't panic: the USPS says the ETA is 10/1...and more often than not media mail has been arriving _after_ the projected date on the receipt.

It just arrived over the weekend. A box with lots of beautiful stamps. Hamster stamp! Bunny! Guinea Pig! (https://www.instagram.com/p/B3QtZRgl-fp) And thanks for the wishlist book!

I do have a problem... I just said goodbye to some house guests this morning and I myself is packing to go on a trip the day after tomorrow. It is my bad that I forgot that Hyphen8 lives in Hawaii and the box takes longer to arrive. I had thought that I would have time to move the box before my trip, but honestly I just don't, especially as I have to find a new box as the original one has burst.

So, my apologies for holding up the box for an extra two weeks. I will take care of it as soon as I return.

No worries, Azuki. Have a good vacation

Fine with me, as I still have lots of reading to do. :-)

Have a great vacation!

I need to get reading! Have a great trip...

Came Tuesday. I think I am putting in five, taking out five. Will write to next in line.

Not sure when I'll be getting to the post office. I pulled out 5 books. I was surprised to see that I had actually gotten 5 appropriate books read or at least purchased since the book box started. It's got a nice variety in it.

I have been working 6 or 7 days per week. Was not able to get to the post office with the box during business hours last week, as I had hoped. The box is not lost or stalled, I'm hoping to mail it ASAP.

Thanks for keeping us posted. I have been in the cant get to the post office cycle at times myself and completely understand. Hope you get a breather -- I bet you could use it!

I'd love to join up, provided I can ship to someone in the US. Postage for a box of this size is prohibitive otherwise. I'm in Virginia. Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem, since we are all in the US. I will put you at the end of the list and maybe we can even arrange to meet in person for the hand-off. Been meaning to take a day trip to your neck of the woods at some point.

I received the box a few days ago and am delighted at all the good things inside! Please be patient with me as I will not be able to send it back out until the end of next week as I am traveling to attend my Dad's 80th birthday party.

Do I send it back to GoryDetails after I've made my selections?

Do I send it back to GoryDetails after I've made my selections?

No, it should be returned to 6of8 who organized the box. :-)

Supposed to arrive next Tuesday (not very far away). Somehow, between the post office and now, I have misplaced the receipt with the tracking number, but it is somewhere, if needed.

I hope it's ok to wait until Tuesday to open it (day it was supposed to arrive anyway). I'm in a marathon cleaning- and decorating session this weekend due to company coming on Monday [I don't want to be distracted by BOOKS at the moment!]

and plan to mail the box out just after Christmas.

On its way to perryfran; USPS tracking #9549012445340003235399.

I listed my swaps in the bookbox journal

Sorry to be a bit slow.

Looks like an interesting selection...I have some books ready to include in this so should be a short turn around. Just need to get the address of the next in line.

Books are boxed up and ready to travel to Nina's_Booknook in VA.

I listed the books I removed and added in the bookbox journal:

I apologize for the huge delay but the book box is finally going out in the mail today. I journaled all the books in the box and listed which I took and what I replaced them with at
and here is the tracking number for the shipment: USPS 9449 0112 9837 0534 5087 45
