Complete Thread
Hi Everyone!

I have a lot of Female Empowerment books that could possibly use a new home, so I started up a book box to see if anyone was interested.

Do you have any books that empower females or and /or have a strong female lead that are taking up space on your shelf? Now more than ever, I feel as if we need this. I'm aiming for about 10-15 books.

If you would like to join, please leave a reply here or PM me.

1. Books must empower females and/or have a strong female lead (anything goes. Use your imagination. If necessary, include a note in your journal entry about how and/ or why females are empowered).
2. Keep the box moving (two weeks or less to send out, ideally)
3. Have fun! (I know, that’s cheesy)

Here is the order (May change, based on location):

1. originalslicey
2. AlterEgoZoe - PA
3. Kkarlene -MT
4. Spatial - VA
5. mrsjones - OH
6. emmejo - NY
7. ravencat- NY
8. RandomScrabble- NJ <<<Skipped, can't be messaged
9. lemondrop622 - CO
......... and then back to me, Chicvolley99 <<<Box is here!

Additional Rules:
1. Post on this forum when the books arrive and when you send it out (with a tracking number, if possible).
2. Take whichever books you would like, and replace them with others. The number of books doesn’t have to be the same, as long as the box is kept full.
3. Journal all of the books that you take and all of the books that you add to the box. (If you would like, you can also journal the books that you don’t take. This is not required, but I like to do so.)
4. PM the next person on the list for their mailing address, and send the box on its way (two weeks or less is ideal).

Thanks everyone for your help!

I’m interested!

Not sure what I have currently available so may have to read up. Would you put me somewhere in the middle of the mailing list?

I may need to be toward the middle, too.

Thanks for joining. I have put you somewhere in the middle.

I'd be interested in joining this one.

I'll join in
Further down in the list would be preferred, since I am in the middle of moving right now and it might be a while before I have things organized.

Thanks for hosting a new, fun box!

Thanks for joining. Per your request, I will add you near the bottom of the list.

I do have a few available books that work (and maybe some tbr). Put me wherever in the order. I am in PA

Thanks for joining!

Oh my gosh! I want in on this!!

So Excited!
I've focusing on reading down my girl power books so I'll have a few ready for when this box arrives.

I'm getting excited!

Any idea when you'll initially ship it out?

Thanks for asking, Kkarlene. I am planning on sending this out next week, so everyone get ready!

Need to get those books prepped to send out!

If we can keep this bookbox moving and get it all the way back home in two months then hopefully you can re-release some of your new finds in the 'Empowering Women' Release Challenge I'm hosting in March. ;-)

I think I might need to read all weekend long....
p.s. I have two different shipping addresses, but I'll choose to have this shipped to Kansas as it is easier for me to journal books from my office.

Tracking # is 9549012373839014431196

but it's a work address, so I expect to receive it sometime Tuesday (Monday is a holiday).

If there's still time I'd love to join 😊

Thanks for joining!

If not to late please add me... in New York State...thanks

Thanks for joining!

I hope to make my choices and send it on by Friday.

I should be sending this out today or tomorrow, depending on whether I can mail it from my office or have to take it to the post office. See below for what I took took and replaced in the box.

I took out 4 novels:

Beverly Hills Adjacent by Jennifer Steinhauer and Jessica Hendra
Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta
The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee
Him Her Him Again the End of Him by Patricia Mark

and 5 non-fiction titles:

The Blind Side by Michael Lewis (I've seen the movie a couple times, but read the first chapter of the book as was intrigued enough to read this story that I'm already familiar with.)
It's Your World by Chelsea Clinton - a book targeted at kids and ways they can change the world.
Spoken From the Heart by Laura Bush
Make Trouble: Standing Up, Speaking Out, and Finding the Courage to Lead by Cecile Richards
My Point...and I Do Have One by Ellen DeGeneres

I've replaced with 4 novels and 4 nonfiction books:
The Awakening by Kate Chopin - classic feminist novel written in 1899 and still making an impact.
Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs - Temperance Brennan is a feminist if I saw one.
Enlightenment by Renu Ursal - 1st book in a series that will be released in March. Young Adult Paranormal Romance with Filipino characters. Dorothy has some sort of paranormal abilities and an ancient destiny to fulfill.
Love in the Time of Global Warming - YA book with female protagonist who goes on a journey like Odysseus. How well you remember The Lotus Eaters, The Cyclops and the Sirens from reading Homer's The Odyssey in high school may affect how well you enjoy this read. Strong female lead and LGBTQ characters.

Mountain to Mountain: A Journey of Adventure and Activism for the Women of Afghanistan by Shannon Galpin
This May Sound Crazy by Abigail Breslin - relationship advice in this young adult memoir
Leap: Leaving a Job with No Plan B to Find the Career and Life You Really Want by Tess Vigeland
Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland by Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus

Will go through asap

I had two copies of Leap, and I just started reading my other copy this week. I'm about 50 pages in and I really like it so far. Her writing voice makes me feel like I'm listening to public radio - in a good way. lol. It's like I can hear a host from NPR when I'm reading the text. It's very conversational with a story-telling vibe.

Box arrived
The box is a little worse for wear with two large holes along the edges but the books are unaffected. After opening the box, the side fell open like a flat ramp! :) I don’t think any books escaped but with all these strong willed women never know!

I’ve PMed mrsjones and will send it on it’s way soon with a new box.

Ha, I'm glad that the box arrived! Like you said, hopefully no strong females escaped!

...are on their way!

Tracking # 9549010295769087228753

I, Tina
Bridget Jones’s Diary
White Heat
The Whale Rider

Impossible Saints
My Forbidden Face: Growing Up Under the Taliban: A Young Woman’s Story
A Tyranny of Petticoats
Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter

:) Coincidences! There were 2 books in the box that started with 'I, [insert name]'. There was 'I, Tina' and 'I, Rigoberta Menchu'. I thought about adding 'I, Etcetera' by Susan Sontag but it was written as a stream of consciousness and there are not too many people out there that would like a book like that. So, will find it another home. AND I sent another box out today that included 'I, Robot: The Illustrated Screenplay' . It's fun to find patterns like that so I took out 'I, Tina' plus... it's TINA!

I am making my choices and hope to get it mailed back out on Saturday.

I took:
A Tyranny of Petticoats
My Forbidden Face
This May Sound Crazy

And added:
The Rosie Project
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You

Mailing the box out tomorrow!

Some of the books I planned to add were bigger than books I'm planning on taking out, so I may need to swap out the box. I hope to mail it next week.

That was fast! Thanks for letting us know, emmejo!

My choices
I took:
Leaving Deep Water
Lakota Woman
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You

I added in some extras, since the only bigger box Target had was a MUCH bigger box. I actually put the smaller box inside, so if the next couple people in line take some extra books and swap them for smaller books, they may be able to squash the books back into the smaller box.
The Education of Will:
Lesbian Nuns:
Saga, vol. 7:
The Portrait of a Lady:
Bikes Not Rockets:
The Deed of Paksenarrion:
plus an unregistered single issue of Monstress, which is free for the taking.

I'm hoping to ship Wednesday, and will update with a tracking number once the box is in the mail.

EDIT: Finally got the box in the mail! Sorry for the delay! Tracking number is 9549 0112 4258 9115 3574 61

Book box arrived and will get through it in the next few days and PM next in line.

Book box arrived and will get through it in the next few days and PM next in line.

Next in line is RandomScrabble and unfortunately there is no where on profile to message for address and posted in forum ISO with no response so I am message LemonDrop622 for address as I need to get this box out ASAP as I am leaving for vacation this week.

I have chosen:
Impossible Saints by Clarissa Harwood
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs
She-Wolves by Helen Castor
The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
China Dolls by Lisa See
City of Women by David R. Gillham

I also added an unregistered Wit and Wisdom of Women book for the taking as I thought it says it all about this bookring especially page 77 which quotes Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis... "I am woman above everything else".

Unable to contact RandomScrabble and no response on ISO in forum so moving on to next person lemondrop622 mailed today USPS tracking# 9549 0112 5412 9126 2791 20

Thank you! The bookbox is here. Planning to go through and will update soon :)

Thank you to everyone who participated. The box is here at home. I will go through shortly and journal everything.

I can't wait to see what strong women are lurking in the box.
