I ran one of these a few years ago, and would like to start another bookbox of LGBTQ+ books. This box will probably start at the end of June, as I still need to collect more books for it, but I figured I would go ahead and start collecting names.
This box will be for fiction of any genre and non-fiction. I would like to try and have primarily books with LGBTQ+ people as a main character, not just "the gay friend", but if you come across a particularly enjoyable LGBTQ+ side character, feel free to their book. Interested in joining us? Just post below. I will need at least three participants to start this box. Sorry international BCers, this one's US only to keep postage down. Participant list: KateKintail GoryDetails lynmarenjensen Greyflank hyphen8 erishkigal RULES *Try to make sure there is some variety in genres when the box leaves you. There's no need to be too fixated about what is in the box, but keep in mind that the next participant may disappointed to find a box full of nothing but paranormal romance, or humor, or pulpy action stories. *When you get the box please post here so we can track its progress. *Journal all books you take out of the box and make sure you put the same number back in. *Make sure the books you add have the BCID in them. It seems obvious, but I have had times when folks forgot and I had to try and track them down. *Books do not have to be the first in a series, but before adding them, take into consideration how they will read as a stand-alone. If the future reader is going to be completely lost, particularly if the series isn't easily found, consider finding it a home another way. *Please pass the box on within 2 weeks. If something comes up and you are going to have to hold onto the box a little longer, let me know so we don't have to worry.

"boombox", eh? One of the better typos I've seen lately! I'm imagining a rainbow-colored stereo that blasts "I Will Survive"...
Anyway, yes, I'd be up for the boom- er, the bookbox, thanks!

"boombox", eh? One of the better typos I've seen lately! I'm imagining a rainbow-colored stereo that blasts "I Will Survive"... Don't forget the disco ball & roller skates! ;) Anyway, yes, I'd be up for the boom- er, the bookbox, thanks! Me too, although I need to do my "homework" first so I'd prefer not to be at the beginning. (Also, I'll be traveling near the end of June.)

Autocorrect really hates the word bookbox, and my attempts to get it to switch back obviously weren't successful! Glad it was good for a laugh though.

My LGBTQ+ boombox would be more likely blasting Elton John and David Bowie, but we could be on to an interesting theme: LGBT books that are also music-related!

I wish I could say that I bought a lot of books there, but it was a bad week for me $$$wise. But I would not mind another chance to swap out LGBT books. I am not sure how many I have at the moment... but I know that I have at least two...

The tracking number is 9114 9999 4431 4715 9783 85. The box is kind of excessively big for the number of books, but most are paperbacks. If anyone down the line has a smaller box and wants to swap it out, that is fine!

Picked up the box from the post office this morning. Had a BCinDC meeting this afternoon and people gave me two books to put into it in addition to the ones I've already set aside. Hope to have it out this week, as I've got a convention to go to this weekend.

Are you including transvestites under T?
Depending on what I get read in time, that might be relevant.
|
![]() |
![]() |
Yes, I think they can be included. Ok. Figured I should ask since they're sometimes straight. :)
|
![]() |
Once upon a time, transvestite was a term for cross-dressers, be they trans, gay, bi or entirely heterosexual. If your definition includes gay/bi/trans, that'll do.

I'm going to be listing what I'll be taking out and putting in, and I'll PM the next person about what address to send it to--but just now I realized I hadn't even acknowledged receipt yet! Yes, I got it, and I hope to send it along sometime this week.

I have both author and book envy all at once. Heh! Want me to send it to you when I've read it? PM me your address!

I took out:
"Shinobu Kokoro" (this manga--not this copy but this title--came to me and left me about ten years ago, so I welcome it back) "Max & Sven" "Women on Women: An Anthology of American Lesbian Short Fiction" "Changing Pitches" "Indestructible: Growing up Queer, Cuban and Punk in Miami" "Family Dancing" I read and put back in: "Adam & Andy" (It's great!) I put in: J-Boy (BCID 390-12846624) Prince Charming, vols. 1, 2 and 3 (BCID 586-12833978, 521-12833772, and 597-12833768) Junjo Romantica, v. 5 (BCID 535-14294420) "Dr. Hackenbush Gains Perspective," a novel by Ginger Mayerson, and this title/publication isn't in this site's database. (I'll let someone who knows how to add a new title to the database give this book a BCID, whenever it does find a new home.) I slipped in a Yaoi Press catalog, too. I also found a more suitable box than the one that I received, so my mailing to Greyflank is nice and new!

"Dr. Hackenbush Gains Perspective," a novel by Ginger Mayerson, and this title/publication isn't in this site's database. (I'll let someone who knows how to add a new title to the database give this book a BCID, whenever it does find a new home.) Re registering books with no ISBNs or existing BC copies: just use the "skip" button on the "search" page of the registration process. Then you can enter the title/author/category information yourself, and complete the registration that way. If you go ahead and register the book you can PM the next in line with the BCID, if the package is already on its way; I expect they'd be happy to label the book even if they don't want to take it out, and that way you won't lose track of its future travels!
|
![]() |
I'm not in the box, but I wanted to say that you shouldn't publish the entire BCID--as there's some people who will try to register the book without having the book itself. If you want a link to the book you can use www.bookcrossing.com/journal/(all the numbers after the hyphen here). For example your Junjo Romantica vol 5 book's URL would look like this: http://www.bookcrossing.com/---/14294420

I was really hoping to have more books read for this bookbox, but as it turns out being an active published writer is slowly me down. Also, I've joined the NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce (even tho I am not, strictly speaking, a business person) because I wanted to do something to make the world a better place and this place seemed a good starting point.
I have six books in I'm going to let these a surprise. You can always check my shelf if you need to know. :-) Two non-fictions, 1 anthology (with my writing in it), and three thin books of fiction. I am rescuing "Dr. Hackenbush Gains Perspective," because I can't resist an indy book that needs to be labelled. Also: PASSING STRANGE HERO CARDINAL SINS (little known fact, my first M/M story involved a mermaid) CYCLER HALLOWED MURDER I'll get this out to the next person, probably on Friday.
|
![]() |
HERO I liked that one...and was sorry to discover that there won't be a sequel because of the author's death. I'll get this out to the next person, probably on Friday. The next person is currently wondering which of two bookboxes will get to her first and busily reading/registering books for both of them. :p

The books were sent out last week, but I have misplaced the tracking number. Hopefully, all goes well and it gets to HI without a hitch.

Arrived today: now I just need to make decisions! https://www.flickr.com/---/photostream/ (Pretty good turnover: I think only 3 of the books that started in the box are left, and I'll be claiming 2 of them.)

It's the first bookbox I've ever received with a note on it informing me that it had been inspected to insure it met media mail requirements :o

Sadly disappointed to find women better represented... still, I had no problem finding plenty of books that look good/I want to read ;)
So, while here I did pick out one of the girls to read: Strawberry Panic. I also read Limp Wrist. Oh, and Brokeback Mountain. Thank you to everyone who participated! If I hold another round, I'll PM folks who were on this one.
I'm going to start journalling books in a minute. If you were expecting a JE and don't get one, post here so we can try to track the missing book down.
