Wish List Tag Game - Parallel Thread

Complete Thread
Hi there all Wish List Tag Game addicts!
I have been wondering about trying to avoid the blockages on the Tag Game, caused because no-one has a book from the Wish List of the person next to be tagged.

With Schwester's consent I am starting up a parallel thread, same rules as the original game. Both threads will be active and hopefully twice as many taggings can now take place :)

Here are Scwester's rules:
If you would like to participate, please check the wishlist of the member who posted last in this thread, and if you have something from their wishlist that you are willing to send them, you post here with "I tag xxx" and send the book to her/him. So you are now last and hopefully someone will find something for you and so on.
(So if you'd like to participate, please make sure there is something on your wishlist...)

It´s a great game: you get something you like, you send something the person will like who gets it, and you even know the postage costs in advance (if it´s too far and too expensive, you just don´t tag the member).
If you want/need to say something here besides tagging somebody or just want to bump the thread, please use the head line "still xxx needs to be tagged" or something like this, to keep it easier.

Greetings from Dubai!

NEW RULE: I am also going to add a rule to this thread that if it takes more than 6hrs to be tagged, then that person should refrain from tagging for a week.
A lot of us, myself included, have received lots of wonderful books through this thread and as a result, our Wish Lists have been exhausted by those who frequent the thread.
It is time to give others a chance.

OK, just to get this moving I'm going to tag someone from the parallel game.
As I haven't started searching their Wish Lists yet, it will be a surprise tag for someone :)

Very serendipitious - the surprise tag goes to Schwester!!!

Don't tag me!

Bumping - sorry have none of your books.

just bumping - I don't have any of those books either, sorry.

I'll find something to tag AKSarah again in BookMooch.

I am also going to add a rule to this thread that if it takes more than 6hrs to be tagged, then that person should refrain from tagging for a week.
A lot of us, myself included, have received lots of wonderful books through this thread and as a result, our Wish Lists have been exhausted by those who frequent the thread.
It is time to give others a chance.

I'll add my Amazon WL in a moment, there are loads more books on there and I know my WL here is also exhausted.
Thanks, DubaiReader

Amazon WL:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/IO473HGJ9S8Y/ref=cm_wl_rlist_go"]My WishList

Also my 1p list on the same page, where I have separated off all the books that are 1p plus postage on Amazon marketplace.
Total 1,500 WL books!!

I think that is a good idea, but 6 hours is quite short. There's different time zones to consider aswell.

I've tagged AKSarah!!

OK, so 10 hrs? But 10hrs is actually annoyingly long to wait!!
This never used to happen when the thread was new,, people all over the world were tagging so it turned around really quickly. Time zones weren't really an issue.
What worries me is that there are lots of people waiting in the wings who aren't getting a chance. They could probably tag each other but these days it's almost always blocked.

Any other comments?
DR

I think time zones probrably do make a difference - as do postage costs around the world (for example, I'm not even looking at the wishlist of anyone outside europe right now, I can't afford the postage so there's no point). Maybe rather than two parallel games, having an international and local versions would help. But I would be relectant to have too many threads going simultaniously as it is unfair on people using the rabck forums for more standard rabcking
I think 10hours is not even nearly enough time for you to start assuming it's 'died' completely. Having said that, I don't want to be negative, but if no one is playing, maybe it is better to let the game cool down a little, rather than forcing it with lots of bumps and the like. It's a great game and lots of fun, but like all things everyone is very enthusiastic at the beginning and then it settles into a less frenzied pattern. Let it die for a bit and in time it will naturally get resurected or reborn as the cycles of interest turn

I think that it is a good idea to encourage repeat taggers to not jump in so quickly. While it is very generous of them to want to send books it does prevent others from joining in.

I spotted this game and wanted to join in but weeks went past without me standing a chance as the same people kept tagging. It would be stuck on the same name for a while then when I looked again there had been a rapid succession of tagging then it was stuck on a similar name again. I had already been through their wishlists and knew I had nothing that I could send as the wishlists were very narrow and not being added to - a large number of wishlist books is not helpful when they are by the same author or same genre.

In order to join I had to use my office computer to constantly check throughout the day. This is not normally something that I am normally able to do and most people would not bother. Many people do not check the forums each day let alone repeated times a day so I do think that 6 hours is too short a time; as well as different time zones it is important to remember that people who have a busy work and home life may like the opportunity to join in too.

Surely the purpose of the game is not to play as quick as possible, especially as it has been the fast tagging by the same people that has prevented new people joining, and it will again result in the same names appearing and give the impression of the same group of friends swapping books among each other. If there is a fast turnover of new names then excellent, but people who have already been recently tagging should avoid jumping in too quickly. I see nothing wrong with people who have recently tagged holding off for at least a few days to give others a chance. What is the rush?

I think that encouraging players to have a wide variety of books on their wishlist, and to be frequently adding new ones is more important than a quick time limit on tagging.

I have to agree with bookowl1000. I am sure the intentions of the multiple-taggers are sound, but it gets disheartening when you feel as though you can't join in.
Plus, what's the point of having a 'parallel thread' if it gets stuck on and by the same person as the original thread...?

The more players, the wider the genres and the more genres, the more players - that keeps it fun, right...?

I sometimes feel like people here are being to impatient. It doesn't really matter if someone doesn't get tagged for a while. I can imagine that 10 hours is a long time if you look at the forums every ten minutes and nothing happens. But if I for example leave for work and come back about 10 hours later, that means I wouldn't have had a change to tag someone.

So far I've never felt like the thread was going to slow or anything. I think we should just leave it as it is. I think the people who often tag can judge for themselves wether they should wait a bit longer to tag or not. But if they really can't wait, it would be a good idea to keep your wishlist updated and add books to it. Or if you feel like you stall the thread say you would also maybe like wings for a month or something...
But do this after at least 24 hours, not just 6 or 10.

As far as I'm concerned there are two reasons why you would want to participate in this game. One is you like to send books and two is you like to receive book. In the first case, nothing stops you to send books as rabck's outside this game and in the second case: I think most of the players of this game have plenty of books to read anyway and I don't think it really matters if you get tagged in 1 minute, 6 hours or 3 days.

OK, will tag you with this book but haven't read it yet & will be away for nearly a month in October.. SO, might be Nov. before it's begins it's journey....

Thanks for tagging me Oppem :)

And thanks for those who have joined in the discussion here.
As this is a separate thread, it may make sense for it to operate slightly differently to the original.
We could forget about time spans completely and say that each person could post on here only once a week anyway?
It's an interesting point that posts could be blocking because people don't want to send internationally, rather than because no-one has the WL books.

My aim is to get new members involved more, so perhaps some of those who have been struggling to get in here might like to comment??

I have been able to get in from time to time but I do understand the frustration of some folks. One thing (and perhaps it's just me) - I like to spread my books around and don't really want to tag the same few folks over and over again. So I refrain from tagging too often because I want to send to new people and places. I think perhaps it would to a good idea to ask that folks limit themselves to once or twice a week to give others an opportunity to jump in.

With 'Kafka on the Shore'. Have yet to read it and have about 5 books ahead of it. Hope to get it to you before, if not immediately after Christmas! (Slow Reader!! ) :)

with.... The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency Alexander McCall Smith

its tbr, but will read it next

Just a small comment from my side. I try not to tag anybody these days if they haven't been waiting for the tag for at least 22 hours ;)

Would it be an idea to add in the rules for this thread that, if someone tagged in the other thread and didn't get tagged yet there, they would not be allowed to tag here at the same moment. Just to avoid that the same person stops both threads from advancing???

For the time to wait I think 20 hours would be a fair amount to wait, seen the differences of timezones we are working with (someone from Europe could get tagged by someone from the USA or Australia then...).

the US are involved in either wishlist tag game, making it hard for me to get in, because I can only ship in the US.

Apparently, my involvement in wishlist tag causes frustration and that's unfortunate. I won't be tagging in this parallel thread any more, so that may simplify things a little.

I am looking for clarification on the new rule.
" NEW RULE: I am also going to add a rule to this thread that if it takes more than 6hrs to be tagged, then that person should refrain from tagging for a week. "

Does this apply to this thread only? If someone has been waiting 2 days to be tagged in the other thread, can they tag in this thread?

Sorry, I am not trying to be rude, or center anybody out, but the other thread has been stalled for 2 days, and we are now waiting for the same person to be tagged in this thread. I just figure if it has been 2 days, and no one has tagged, then the odds of getting 2 people to tag soon, are probably pretty slim.

Or perhaps they could add more books to their wishlist to up the odds. :-)

I tagged hippolein on this thread, forgetting that I was next in line on the other thread. The purpose of the 2nd thread was to avoid bottlenecks. So I feel a bit silly.

If anyone has a book for hippolein, please go ahead and tag him!
Sorry for the confusion :-(

I have searched your wishlist (and hippolein's) but do not have anything from either of them. It seems are tastes are quite different. I was hoping that by browsing your shelves i might find something that you might like and offer you that, but no luck!. I saw on your profile that you are a member on bookmooch - do you have a different wishlist there that I could checkout?

If anyone has a book for either hippolein or eponine38 please feel free to jump in.

So sorry to tell this, but unfortunately I don't read Cathy Hopkins (neither does my wife), those books were in a box we got to register and release, but due to my studies I haven't been able to release the books I wanted to get out of the house....

I don't read Cathy Hopkins either. To be completely honest, I am not sure why I even have that book here. Maybe my daughter picked it based on title? It is also one that I will just register and release!

if it is no problem that I have to order it from the bookstore, which might take a week or two and then + shipping, but it will come your way eventually, okay ? I'll check, if they're not able to order this at my bookstore, I'll order another title of your wishlist (there are quite a lot of nice books on it, that I like to read too) and update this link.
