For over 25 years, Will Caldwell has followed his passion for painting and the pursuit of artistic inspiration. Raised and educated in a college town, son of a professor and noted author, he traveled the world with his family as a teenager, graduated from Oregon State University in 1966, served in the Viet Nam war, and built his home and studio in the mountain town of Sun Valley, Idaho.

Will studied painting with some of the West's best working artists, and self study of the French, Russian, and American Impressionist masters developed his painting style. With his wife Julie, he made extensive trips to paint the people of Kenya, Peru, China, Bali, and Israel, in search of the cultural aesthetic. While starting a family in Idaho, he painted nostalgic reflections of his own western culture, icons of the fifties, classic cars, and roadside attractions from Hollywood to Yellowstone. Always evolving with new directions, Will experimented with abstract painting and his use of oils and pastel expanded into monotypes and digital print making.

He employs his own unique approach to hand made monotypes (glass to paper transfer paintings), and he shares all his skills by teaching studio workshops. His personal involvement as co-founder of Idaho's strongest forest conservation group is manifest in a monotype series on endangered species. His participation in music and dance performance has led to portrayals of the "figurative arts". Will's recent retrospective shows reveal an artist who is shockingly diverse in style, medium, and subject matter, continually seeking the color and beauty in life, and following his heart to the creative impulse of the moment.
