But what I added was a strip of paper which I inserted like a bookmark, with FREE BOOK, NOT LOST in big letters quite visible when sticking out.

I just don't do it. But we could do some serious obsessing and start a long and heated discussion, for example about the influence the colour of a handwritten note does or does not have on the catch rate ;)
