I am a 55+-year-old German "reimmigrant", who spent half his childhood and most of his youth in Africa. So I actually prefer to communicate in English, and read mainly English books. I am a Berlin "bear" (cf. above), and - apart from the often bad air - think Berlin's pretty close to Nirvana... :-D
My nickname is pronounced like the first 2 or 3 letters of the words: "whole", "tipi", "thing". It's a "word alphabet" I once devised as a 10-year-old, and it spells my real name. Since it's hard to pronounce at meet-ups, I usually carry a badge with a big W - so just call me "W", I don't mind.
(Kurzform des letzten Absatzes auf dt.: Mein "Nick" ist so schwer auszusprechen, dass ich nichts dagegen habe, bei Treffen einfach "W" genannt zu werden! :-))
